Possession is the name of the game in lacrosse.

And the perfect way to describe David Smith’s game.recruiting_update

Faceoffs and groundballs are the specialty of the sophomore from Shawnee High School in New Jersey.

He’ll be taking those skills to the major Division I level after verballing committing this past week to the University of Virginia.

Now, here’s a Q&A with David on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
I felt as though it was time to make a decision after visiting a few schools. Mainly because Virginia is a great academic school and also is very good at lacrosse.

dsmithWhat other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
UPenn, Princeton and Georgetown

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
One of my strength is facing off and on the run shooting. I try to work hard on and off the field.

What area of your game do you need to work on?
I think there can be improvements everywhere. Specifically, I would say that ball control is my weakness.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
My dad introduced me to it when I was in first grade and I also play football.

What travel team did you play on last summer and what showcase events did you participate in?
I have played for Tri-State Lacrosse for my entire lacrosse career.
