malas

Reed Malas made an immediate impact for the Mamaroneck High School (N.Y.) varsity team last spring.

The Class of 2015 attackman/midfielder registered 30 goals and 35 assists and played a key role in the Tigers winning a Section 1 championship for the first time in school history.

Malas continued his strong play over the summer, performing well at several showcase events and playing for the Prime Time travel team.

This past Saturday, Malas gave a verbal commitment to Bucknell University as first reported by Joe Lombardi.

A versatile offensive player, Malas is equally strong as either a feeder or finisher and has a high lacrosse IQ and good field vision, as evident in his highlight reel.

recruiting_updateNow, here’s a Q&A with Reed on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
The academic strength of Bucknell. Along with having great academics, the lacrosse program has a great tradition.  When I visited Bucknell, coaches (Frank) Fedorjaka, (Joe) Conner and (Nick) Marks were incredibly impressive.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I visited and strongly considered Penn, Cornell, Brown and Richmond.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I feel that I have good vision and field sense. I am also versatile as I can play both attack and midfield. But, I also know that I have a lot to work on to compete at the next level.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
My dad introduced me to lacrosse at a very young age.  In third grade, I started playing for the Larchmont/Mamaroneck Youth Lacrosse Program.  I also play quarterback on the Varsity football team for Mamaroneck High School.

Who have been some of the biggest influences on you during your development as a player?
My high school coach Jeff Barnard, and my club coach, Nick Daniello. Each of them have taught me so much about the game.

What travel team did you play on and what were some of the big showcase events you participated in last summer?
I play on Prime Time. Last summer, I was an all-star at Maverik Showtime for rising sophomores. I also attended King of the Hill and the Tri-State Tournament.

Training Reed on increasing his speed&agility was easy his work ethic is far beyond any freshman or Sophmore I’ve ever trained. Bucknell had been blessed with a pick up like this one
