The fact that Chris Marasco will be playing lacrosse at the next level hardly comes as a surprise.

After all, the Somers rising senior midfielder has been a member of the Tuskers’ varsity squad since his freshman year.

And if that’s not enough, his three siblings all play or played collegiate lacrosse: Matt, a defenseman, at Army; JoJo, an attackman, at Syracuse; and Katie, a midfielder, at La Salle.

But the youngest Marasco’s path to college lacrosse — and Western New England University — is very much his own as you’ll learn in this Q&A with Chris on his commitment.

recruiting_updateNow, here’s a Q&A with Chris on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
The main factor was if i wanted D-I or D-III and I really wanted to make my own footprints. My whole life I’ve been compared to JoJo and Matt and I’m not them and wasn’t trying to be. Also, I wanted to be away from home but not too far and WNEU was perfect and Coach (John) Klepacki is a great guy and coach. The school is also very nice and had a perfect amount of people there for me. Also with every school, I looked at the academic side and if the school had Business because that is what i want to major in.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I considered Rutgers, Navy, Siena, Marquette, Delaware, Hartford, WNEU, Union, Cortland and Stevens. I visited Rutgers, Navy, Siena, Hartford, WNEU, Union and Stevens.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I never really like to say much about my abilities because I think I have a lot still to work on. But if I had to, I would say my quickness, vision and lacrosse IQ. My style of play is fast-paced and smart. I never want to rush the ball if I know the defense just played D for a couple minutes but if I have an opening I’m going to take it. Also, I have an unselfish style of play. I’d rather pass then shoot.

How did your brothers, and sister, who all played or play college lax, help your development as a player?
Anyone who knows my family can tell you, the closeness that JoJo and I share is unlike most family relationships. Not only are we brothers but we’re best friends. so over the years, he was always teaching me new moves and ways to shoot outside. He and I always went to throw around and played with each other either in the garage or out in the yard.

I never really got to work with Matt because he’s a defensemen, but he always told me what the defense thought, and how to beat guys. Also he was always there for me off the field, telling me to always work hard and never stop trying.

Katie helped me because she is always up at the field with me practicing. We work off each other and are also very close. She’ll dodge on me and I’ll dodge on her. She will cut and I’ll throw her the ball then I will cut and she will pass me the ball. They all influenced me in their own ways and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.
