The University of Michigan has plenty to look forward to in its inaugural season of Division I competition next year.

One date that’s definitely circled on the Wolverines’ collective calendars is April 14. As we reported here on July 12, Michigan will be hosting Ohio State in “The Big House” prior to Michigan’s annual spring football game.

That’s among the topics we discussed with Ryan Breen, a defenseman who recently graduated from the Taft School in Watertown, Conn.

The 6-foot-3, 205-pound Breen, who originally committed to Lafayette, has had a change of heart, and will instead be playing his college lax at Michigan.

Here are Ryan’s thoughts on becoming a Wolverine:

What were the main factors in your decision to decommit to Lafayette and attend Michigan?
I ultimately felt that Lafayette was not the best fit for me.  When the opportunity arose to attend and play for Michigan, I felt that this was what I wanted and I decided to make the switch.

When did you make that decision and were you considering any other colleges besides Michigan?
I decided early on this summer, but I only considered Michigan in this process.

Do you know any other players you have played with or against either during the season or summer who will be playing at Michigan?
No, I don’t.

Are you looking forward to building a program in an area that is still growing in terms of lacrosse participation and at a university with the resources Michigan has?
I’m psyched.  The athletic department at Michigan is second to none.  It couldn’t be better to be involved with their DI program.

It’s a great step for the sport in general and the combination of academics and lacrosse, with the Michigan machinery behind it, is exactly the balance I was looking for.

What are your thoughts on playing Ohio State at “The Big House” before the spring football game? What do you think the atmosphere will be like?
It will be a unique experience.  I hear they get upwards of 50,000 people just for that game.

It should be an amazing and intense afternoon of lacrosse against their bitter rival, Ohio State.  That’s the atmosphere that I can’t wait for.
