  1. Section1lax says:

Here are my predictions for state finals:

    Class A: Farmingdale vs Ithaca
Class B: Garden City vs Jamesville DeWitt
    Class C: Bronxville vs Cazenovia

Class L: Fairfield Prep vs Ridgefield
Class M: Darien vs New Canaan
    Class S: Somers vs Stonington

The class M quarterfinal (Wilton vs Darien) should be a great game

  2. Old Rugger says:

Bville has some legit D1 talent but it is very hard to predict where they stand as their schedule doesn’t help with this part of the season. I think Town GC game will be a classic. GC 8 Town 7,

  3. Conor STATESly says:

Here are my predictions for the downstate Semi Finals

    Class A: Farmingdale over Shen
Class B: Yorktown over GC in OT
    Class C: Bronxville over Bayport

Looking forward to the Town vs. GC game. I think it will be like no other and I know both teams are fighting to get to that state championship game. Yorktown has played numerous tough Nationally Ranked opponents and I believe they are ready for this game on Wednesday. The key to this game for Yorktown will be 1. Winning Faceoffs and 2. Getting an early lead

It will be interesting to see how Yorktown does against the GC defense. This should be a great game no matter the outcome.

  4. nylax11 says:

I couldn’t agree with you more Conor.Town needs to win face offs and get a lead early to have a chance.

  5. Blue White says:

Be great to see Wilton and Yorktown punch through to the respective finals, but those are some serious opponents that will be heavy favorites.

Obviously, winning faceoffs will be key for both teams going against monster defenses.

    • Lax Novice says:

If memory serves most of Wilton’s goals in the FCIAC semifinal were off scrambles and unsettled situations. If Wilton can get a couple early from their set offense then that will get momentum rolling. They certainly will need Francia and Nugent to get going.

I think Yorktown is going to hang around with Garden City for a bit on Wednesday. I don’t see Ty Schuldt and Justin Mabus getting pushed around by GC’s defense at all. OTOH the Husker attack seems to be made up of quick but slight guys who aren’t going to have a lot of time to hang onto the ball. Ball movement will be key for them as well as the faceoffs you mentioned. I’m also not sure how many Yorktown D guys match up with Garden City’s offense, that’s where most of Yorktown’s challenges will come from in my view.

One other thing, there was a lot of yap over having the sectional finals at Suffern. Let’s see that famous CROP and a lot of other people in green supporting their team in White Plains now that the game is reasonably close to home. You know Garden City is going to travel well, don’t be embarrassed in your home county.

      • laxdog says:

I take that as an insult to the crop. They have been strong in every game except in albany. They will never embarrass this county or there TOWN ok FAN NOVICE

      • LoveTownLax says:

did you see the picture of The Crop at the Suffern game on the various websites? They had a massive showing, almost filling the far side bleacher.. I’ll bet more than showed up for the other 5 teams combined….

      • rlaxfamily says:

I hope that laxnovice was just trying to get the Crop riled up. No need for that. Yorktown has the best fans in the Section – hands down. The stands will be packed and I pray that Town comes out victorious. Go Huskers!!

      • Conor STATESly says:

As the leader of this years CROP the only thing i will say is show up to White Plains HS on Wednesday at 5:30 PM and come see THE CROP in full effect.

        • upstate says:

I like yorktown…i am not a hater. GC is probably the best tem in the state, if not the country now that WI is knocked out. I say Town loses by 3, 10-7.

  6. ReLAX says:

You could end up with a LI sweep Wednesday & Saturday…hey Joe when was the last time that happened?

    • Joe Lombardi says:

2006, reLAX. State champs that year were: Class A, West Islip (7-6 over West Genesee); Class B, Huntington (18-6 over Corning East); and Class C, Cold Spring Harbor (13-5 over CBA).

  7. slacrosse says:

    Joe,

    Where is JohnFANNIGAN (SP) hiding?

  8. John FANagan says:

My last post was the first JJ-Town game of the year, but after that season-long hiatus, I am officially back ladies and gentlemen. After my beloved Terrapins lost in the NCAA Championships down in b’more, I decided to aim my focus towards the boys in green & white.

Garden City is the #3 team in the country. Garden City has a swarming defense that has the ability to extend all over the field. Garden City has the same types of players as Yorktown, but better. Garden City is going to win…

Whoa, whoa, whoa, if it were that easy, we wouldn’t even play the game. Yes, these statements are true (but the third statement debatable) but there are certain things that need to align for Yorktown in order for them to pull off the upset…

First, they need to come up huge in the faceoff category. Faceoffs are often the first component in pulling off an upset. Second, similar to the Dallas Mavericks, the role players need to come up huge. Schuldt has been on fire; we know him and Mabus will be putting up the numbers for Ytown. Senior leadership from Danny ‘truckstick’ Donatelli and Tyler Fahey will be huge when it comes to motivating the role players to step up. I’m going to go back to the JJ game, b/c the stats of the last two games Town has played in are entirely irrelevant but the boxscore was very well balanced, with distribution in points amongst all of Town’s players. If Town is able to mimic the balance and efficiency that was executed in the Section Final, they should be in good shape. The last component is the defense, but thats a given.

If Town puts the pieces together, the upset is inevitable… If not, we’ll get the outcome everyone outside of Ytown is expecting.

    XFACTORS:
The CROP takes advantage of the short road-trip and gets rowdy.
Ytown Ballboys provide optimal hydration for the Huskers.
Lodey takes his NCAA Maryland championship frustration out on Garden City, creating the perfect defensive scheme to shut down GC.

    boom

  9. John FANagan says:

    Forgot my prediction..

    Town 11-7, they do better than everyone else thinks… Mariano 3G, Gately 4A, Schuldt 3G, Mabus 2G 3A, Fusco 2G, Thorp 1G

  10. Ytown Wins!!! says:

FANagan, I like your prediction and I think Town is going to get a couple from Brian Quigley as well. Quiggs is going to bring it on Weds!

  11. Syracuse says:

You have to admire the passion from the Yorktown fans, but I’m left wondering if indeed insanity has taken over with some of these predictions. FANagan, you’re a model American … and I hope you are 100 percent spot on in your prognostication.

  12. Terpslax says:

You guys are nuts – GC is loaded on D, town will struggle to score just like everyone else who has faced GC.

    I think GC wins 10-3

I think Farmingdale wins as well

    • slacrosse says:

For sure Town needs to be at the very top of their game to hang in there with GC.

Playing at that level and knowing Town came within 1.goal of St Anthonys and Smithtown West there has to be at least a realistic possibility to upset GC.

Playing in Westchester wont hurt Town either.

  13. Indian J says:

I like Farmingdale 10-8 over Shen

The Trojans over The Green 12-6

Bayport Blue Point over Bronxville 13-6

  14. Lax Games says:

Can Town play patient cutter O scheme against swarming GC D?

Can Town D turnover GC to create some breaks?

Face-offs, Goalie play, clears all need to be near perfect for Town to win.

Will the heat play a factor for either side?

Hope Sec 1 pulls it off, but I think Town’s lack of comp the last week will hurt against the Trojans from wrong island

    GC 9 – Town 5

  15. rlaxfamily says:

I’ll take the underdog. Nothing to lose. Blue collar lacrosse, dig in, get it done. Green and White will see the hardware. Play the game that they have been playing all year and they will do well. Go Huskers!!

  16. terpslax says:

    Goals scored against GC

    Syossett – 1
    Smithtown West – 2
    Melville – 10
    St Pauls (md) -7
    Duxbury (Ma) – 0!
    Wantaugh – 3
    Manhassett – 6
    South Side – 1
    South Side – 2
    Manhassett – 5
    Shorham Wading River – 4

How does Yorktown get more than 5 goals? It ain’t happening.

    • Syracuse says:

Yorktown has to push the ball on offense every chance they get because 6 v 6 settled will be a nightmare. Transition, faceoffs, GBs and their goalie rising up. They do that, they have a shot.

    • LoveTownLax says:

It did happen, terpslax, and we are proud of our ‘Town boys! Way to play hard, and leave it all on the field. (just like the Terps, right?) Bronxville boys as well. Great games.

    • rlaxfamily says:

Yorktown dominated on face offs. They came out strong and kept on shooting. They mixed up their players on offence. Mistakes cost them the game. Nothing more and nothing less.

      • slacrosse says:

Yeah, really surprising that the same kid for GC could not get the ref’s FO cadence right something like 8-9 times in a row?

    • slacrosse says:

Yeah, it “happened” and Town came close to winning the game!

  17. Doid23 says:

As much as I would love Town to pull the upset, I just don’t see it. However, Yorktown has played some very good teams (Smithtown West, St. A’s, Darien, etc.), so they certainly are capable of representing themselves well. And if GC has a letdown and Town plays out of their mind, you never know.

Also, good to see Bronxville playing in a state semi, don’t think that they will win either, but a nice boost to the program.

  18. HuskerPride says:

Joe: Any word on the heat index for tomorrow possibly postponing games?

    • Joe Lombardi says:

The newly enacted rule calls for a 45-minute delay if the “Real Feel” index is 96 degrees or higher. With the projected high around 93-95 for tomorrow, it’s possible the first game – Shen vs. Farmingdale – could have a delay. But I don’t think the temperatures will be high enough to result in postponements. Now, if they were scheduled for Thursday, that might be a different story. The high temp Thursday is predicted to be around 98 in the region.

      • slacrosse says:

        Joe

        What is “real feel” index?

        • Joe Lombardi says:

It’s an index used to determine what the temperature really feels like. For instance, if it is 86 degrees with very high humidity, little or no wind and sunny skies, the “Real Feel” may be 92.

          • slacrosse says:

            Joe

Thx and please dont bother responding. I figured so but guess finally the refs (in consultation with coaches? figure out what the official “feel” is.

          • Joe Lombardi says:

According to the Section 1 handbook, accuweather.com’s hourly forecast for the zip code of the host site is used. I just checked accuweather.com now and the Real Feel tomorrow in White Plains is expected to peak at right around 96 degrees.

          • Joe Lombardi says:

Checking the hourly forecast for tomorrow, it looks like it’s going to be a close call with the projected “Real Feel” at White Plains HS 95 degrees at 2:30 p.m. – an hour before the first game. Under the rules in the handbook, if the “Real Feel” is 96 degrees or above an hour before game time, the game is suspended.

            http://www.accuweather.com/us/ny/white-plains/10605/forecast-hourly.asp?fday=2&hbhhour=11

          • Lax Games says:

Not for nothing but the real feel on that turf will be 100+ if air temp is 95 during first game.

    • HV Fan says:

First game now at 430pm, and Ytown vs GC will start 20 mins after that, im saying sometime around 630ish

  19. Conor STATESly says:

At this point no one really knows what will happen for tomorrows Yorktown vs. GC game. It is easy to just say that GC will win as expected in a blowout, but if you look at the facts its not that simple. Yorktown plays one of if not the toughest schedule in the nation with notable games against, Darien, Smithtown West, Chaminade, St. Anthonys and this is no coincidence. Yorktown uses these games to figure out their weak points and fix them. The only way to truly get better throughout the season is to be put to the test, which Yorktown certainly has been.

Sure GC has an incredible Defense who tends to keep their opponents to 5 goals or less for the most part, but Yorktown has experience against teams of this caliber. Town will have to play the best lacrosse they have played all season, there is no doubt about that, but when you look at Town’s resume combined with its coaching staff and experience, it is hard to completely rule them out of this one.

Also, this game will be played relatively nearby to Yorktown, so expect THE CROP to be in full effect. THE CROP has not been at a state-semi game since its inaugural season in 2009 so expect a huge turnout in that aspect. Several of our past CROP leaders will be in attendance as well including founders Nick Ellsworth and Matt Ciccotto as well as last years leader Allen Mata. THE CROP will do what they are meant to do on wednesday.

    Town 7 GC 6

  20. wii lax says:

like the yanks town is going down 11to 4

  21. Journal Views says:

All games will be at White Plains, nothing moved as anticipated. First game is now 4:30.

  22. HERE WE GO TOWN!!! says:

In order for town to win there transition, clearing, and face offs must be flawless

if they do this I predict town pulling it off in OT 9-8
