It’s one of the more action packed Tuesdays of the season with plenty of intriguing games throughout the Hudson Valley/Long Island/Connecticut region.

We begin in Long Island where Chaminade, which handled rival St. Anthony’s 14-8 last week, places at unbeaten Manhasset at 6 p.m.

In other Nassau games, these are 4:30 p.m. starts: Garden City is at Great Neck South, Kennedy Bellmore visits Jericho, Wantagh is at Mepham, Calhoun visits Long Beach, Carey is at New Hyde Park and Lynbrook visits Great Neck North. South Side is at Malverne at 4:15 p.m. At 4:45p.m., Elmont hosts MacArthur.

In CHSAA games on the Island, L.I. Lutheran faces St. Dominic (4:15 p.m.) and St. Mary’s faces Mount St. Michael’s (3:30 p.m.)

The Suffolk slate is also stacked. At 4:30 p.m., Comsewogue hosts Babylon, Huntington visits Shoreham-Wading River, Southampton is at Eastport/South Manor, Half Hollow Hills hosts Westhampton, Greenport-Mattituck-SH visits East Hampton, Miller Place is at Bayport-Blue Point and Kings Park hosts Center Moriches. At 5 p.m., Happauge hosts Bellport and Sayville visits Mount Sinai.

In the Hudson Valley, two of last year’s three sectional champs square off as defending Class A champ Yorktown plays at defending Class C champ Putnam Valley at 4:30 p.m. Put Valley, which is coming off a big win over Rye, is coached by former YHS and Johns Hopkins all-America defenseman Brian Kuczma.

John Jay is 5-1 and Horace Greeley is 1-5, but expect a close game when the teams meet in Cross River at 4:30 p.m. Against mutual opponent Somers, John Jay won by two goals and Greeley lost by just one.

In other 4:30 p.m. games: Ossining visits Brewster. Wappingers is at Haldane, Harrison hosts Fox Lane, Westlake visits Hastings, John F. Kennedy Catholic is at Peekskill, Iona Prep meets Holy Trinity and Byram Hills visits Somers. At 4 p.m., Stepinac faces St. Raymond’s.

Penn Yan plays Lakeland/Panas at 5 p.m. at Lakeland High School. At 5:15 p.m., unbeaten Arlington hosts Croton-Harmon.

In Connecticut action, unbeaten Staples hosts Trumbull at 11 a.m. at Staples Stadium. Cheshire plays host to Minnechaug (Mass.) at noon at Wesleyan University.

In 4 p.m. games, Darien hosts Trinity Catholic, Bridgeport Central is at St. Joseph, Newtown hosts Weston and Fairfield Prep faces Xavier at Fairfield University’s Alumni Field.

At 4:30 p.m., Ridgefield plays at Westhill, Brien McMahon visits Wilton and Greenwich hosts Danbury.

  1. HV Lax says:

Greeley might finally get that upset that they’ve been working for in the last 4 games.

Joe, predictions on the JJ/Greeley game?

  2. Joe Lombardi says:

I’m on record going with John Jay winning 11-7.

  3. HV Lax says:

No faith, haha. One game has to go in the Quakers favor eventually, why not make it exciting.

  4. good luck says:

good luck Greely but Leventhal is gonna struggle to work the zone, i say Jay 11-5

  5. Predict-O-Tron says:

A great day for lax and the weather is supposed to cooperate!

John Jay easily over Horace Greeley; It’s probably a nice thing to do, to say that a team will be a tough out for John Jay, but the fact is that the Quakers don’t match up at all. Throw out the mutual opponent, Somers because the only thing less predictable than the weather is the Somers lacrosse team. Add to that the fact that JJ has already beaten Yorktown, Rye, L/P and Somers and it’s tough to make a case for a Horace G upset.
    JJ by 6+

Ossining over Brewster; The indians have been on a roll this year, (by small program standards), having won a few games they shouldn’t have and losing, predictably, to Mahopac. They are 2-0 on the road and after they beat back Nanuet this weekend you’d like to say they will easily roll Brewster, but nothing is ever easy for this team. Still, it’s probably time to raise expectations on the tribe (they’ve earned it) and expect them to dispatch Brewster with a moderately comfortable W. If they pull it off, they’ll stay in the upper sanctum; if not, back into the quagmire!
Ossining by 3+ on the road.

Putnam Valley over Yorktown; Putnam Valley finds itself in the middle game of a brutal 3 game set (Rye, Yorktown, L/P), having already picked up a W against Cole McCormack-less Rye. The law of averages heavily favors PV to lose the next two, but not so fast. Yorktown has easily handled two of their SecOne opponents, Wappingers and Hen Hud, but PV is a whole step higher on the food chain. Yorktown has looked unYorktown like at times this season and the days of “auto-wins” are, well, at least in hibernation. PV’s 3 wins, while not L.I. caliber opponents, all have winning records and are in the Laxpower Top 10 (flawed, but not completely). Emotion is a powerful ally and Coach K will have a solid gameplan to defend KI. The question becomes can they shut down Mr. McLee and get some output by their own Mr. Fitzgerald and rest of the offense? Yes they can.
Putnam Valley at home by 1+ and a heart attack for their fans.

Kennedy over Peekskill; The Gaels and new coaching staff, ala Savastano, are enjoying getting to know each other and the honeymoon continues. Kennedy, 1-4 has scored a respectable 36 goals in their first five, but have given up a soul-crushing 57. How can you win with defensive numbers like that? Play a team like Peekskill, that has scored only 3 goals in their first four games. While Kennedy certainly doe not have the ability to hit the gas and score at will they should be able to put some of Coach Sav’s coaching to good use here and tally. Watch for Coach Sav to find a way to keep this one close enough for Peekskill to be able to hold their heads high.
    Kennedy by less than 8.

Holy Trinity vs. Iona Prep; Who cares? I’ve never read more than one post in a row by an Iona Prep fan on this blog, and exactly zero by Trinity faithful. Here’s to hoping they all have a good time. lol.
    Trinity by 3+

L/P over Penn Yann; This ain’t section five and the Rebels ain’t West Seneca. Penn Yann comes in with a perfect 5-0 and has the ability to score a lot of goals. But L/P is already battle-tested, going 2-1 against the State of Washington and rolling their SecOne foes. Mr. Yann, say hello to Mr. Caffery and crew.
    L/P by 2+

    Have a great day everybody!

  6. Indian J says:

    Jay over Greely 13-6
    Brewster over Ossining 11-7
    Town over PV 11-5
    Kennedy over Peekskill14-3
    Prep over Trinity 10-4
    Penn Yann over L/P 10-9

Jay will score on Greely very easily for a large portion of the game. Just not the entire game. Brewster is not one of their best teams in the program’s history but they are still Brewster-and are capable of beating Ossining. Kennedy can practice all of the things the Savs have been teaching against Peekskill and will get to bring in the clean jerseys in the fourth. Town won’t lose to PV after one of their worst beatings ever. (The 16-3 loss to Bethage in 1996 being the worst.) Garden City evened the series between these two storied programs in a very emphatic fashion. Marr’s team will be ready to play. You have to imagine Prep is good enough to beat Trinity, unless they catch a let down after the quality win over Somers. L/P is a tough team, that is undeniable but Penn Yann will beat them.

Good luck to players and coaches.

  7. LI Lax says:

This is really just a guess, but I’m gonna go with Chaminade 8, Manhasset 7

  8. LI Lax says:

The way I see it…Manhasset shouldn’t have much of a problem on faceoffs with Buhr, but will they be able to score against Chaminade’s settled defense? Chaminade will force the game into a 6 on 6 struggle and frustrate Manhasset, force some turnovers to negate the faceoff advantage. Then they’ll score just enough to win.

  9. Gonna Say says:

    JJ-12 Greeley-7
    Ossining-9 Brew-6
    Byram Hills-7 Somers-5
    Yorktown-11 Put Valley- 9
    I-Prep-11 Trin-6
    Penn Yan-11 Lake/Pan-10
    Manhassett-12 Garden City-10

    Injury reports:
Lake/ Panas- Honovich, hurting Mccay out
Somers- Deiana, Pfiffner hurting. Petre, Bello,Partenza out
    Yorktown- Burke-??? and Porcelli- Hurting

  10. laxified says:

Not sure Set becomes too frustrated 6v6. They can whip it around pretty good and are very patient. There is a lot of emotion on both sides in this game and I believe whoever keeps their poise the best will come out on top. Should be fun to watch

  11. Malarchuk says:

After a16-0 win. It now puts the bears as a real champ

  12. BigBadBear says:

easy Malarchuk…that game was a case study as to all that is wrong with Section 1’s “geographic” alignment,,,first of all, I can name 10 schools closer to us than Magnus…second of all, Magnus kids were playing hard, but they were all frosh and soph’s..running time started early in the second half..let’s beat Westlake, maybe we can have a conversation…finally, based on what Joe has said, beating an winless team has virtually no impact on playoff seedings

  13. slacrosse says:

12-5 J over Gree (will be closer at HG’s “field”).

    10-9 Town over PV

  14. Lax123 says:

    Ytown 12 PV 7
JJ 10 HG 8 Bastian shuts down Daniello
    Ossining 10 Brewster 5
Somers 10 Byrum 4 Breakout game for Somers
    Penn Yan 12 L/p 7

  15. Casual observer says:

i think the prep trinity game will be closer than some of you are predicting. ill go with prep 9-6. ytown 14-6. jj 11-8. and the upset special of the day:…………………..byram hills over somers in OT.

  16. Casual observer says:

and predict-o-tron….heres Iona Prep’s second in a row…nice little rebound by iona prep after a tough one vs nade, beating fordham big and a close one vs.somers…you should be on here a little longer before you start making claims like that rook.

  17. laxingonli says:

Schedule change the Manhasset/Chaminade game starts at 6:30 tonight at Manhasset High School

  18. Old Rugger says:

    Town 9 PV 7 (McLee for 3)
    JJ 13 HG 6
Brewster 11 O 10 (Ossining is moving up)
Somers ?? BH ?? (injuries to somers, penalties, leadership) Somers wins either very small or big too unpredictable.
PY 12 L/P 11 (If they are beat up like Gonna Say says)
    IPrep 10 Holy Trinity 8
Savs (Kennedy) win in a morale booster game against Peekskill. by 8-10

Would love any updates etc from the LI guys on the SWR- Huntington game.

I’m now starting to think Sett 9 Chaminade 7 in the first statement game for Sett. (JJ while good is a work in progress). Speed wins and while those 2 great defenders for Chaminade will slow things down and prevent easy goals, but the Midfield of Sett will be the game changers as they win the midfield battle.

  19. Predict-O-Tron says:

    Feel better Casual?

I’m glad. You sure showed me. Ooo, I need to lay down now….

  20. Old Coach says:

    Hmm.

Greeley just doesn’t seem to match up well with Jay

Jay beat HG by 9 and 10 last year at Greeley on grass (the first time w/o Stewart) and Jay is supposed to be better this year, yes?

    Greeley, not so much.

Don’t see how this points to a close game at Jay on turf. Maybe not, but it seems more likely the score will resemble last year’s matches or the Jay-Brewster(who beat HG) game this year.

  21. hud lax says:

    JJ 11 Greeley 9 , levnthal will get 6

  22. Casual observer says:

yea i do. thanks for caring bud.

  23. Bigeasy says:

SWR leads Huntington 7-6 at halftime

  28. Syracuse says:

John Jay and Greeley are tied at 1 after 1. Brendan Morris for Jay and Nate Becker for HG with the goals.

  29. Syracuse says:

Sorry for the slow updates, folks. Joe has bad service at Jay and I’m swamped at work. John Jay leads Greeley 5-4 at halftime. Forrest Walter put Jay up with goal off assist from Will O’Donnell in final minute of second quarter. Five different scorers for Jay; Leventhal has 2 for Greeley.

  30. LI Lax says:

  40. D-PAC says:

Just got back from Town/PV game. Town was missing a couple of starters and KI was out for the second half. PV very impressive with their shots. Much better than Town on one on ones. Impressive perimeter shooting by PV. #12 with some great shots. Town much better with their passing.

  47. IPpy Lax says:

Iona Prep 10, Holy Trinity 7

    Castellano 3-3

    De Salvo 2-2

  48. HV Lax says:

Well Greeley did not win, but they certainly proved most of the people on this blog wrong.

13-10 is pretty impressive, and Hunter Bastian held Daniello to 1 goal.

JJ is not unbeatable, that is for sure. And Greeley is no where near out of the running

  49. BH - Somers says:

Byram looked extremely sluggish today. 13-4 Final. Somers dominated start to finish every play. All their top guns did indeed play (deiana, bello, petre) except partenza. Props to somers for coming out strong and rebounding from a bad start…keep ur heads up boys and take it to the rest of the section like you did today

  50. WhaleBelt says:

    4-3 Cham at the half

  51. lax9 says:

  56. Kaklax says:

Any thoughts on the Greeley vs. JJ game?

  57. WhaleBelt says:

Cham Set tied at 5 after 3. battle.

  58. LI Lax says:

    5-5 after three

  59. LI Lax says:

6-6, 6 minutes to go, Set with the ball

  60. LAXFAN says:

I have seen both play. There is no way Greeley beats JJ this season.

  61. LacrosseInsider says:

Thoughts on Greeley / JJ –

    – JJ needs to win some faceoff’s (this has been repeated over and over)
    – JJ really needs a goalie! It seems apparent that Schurr is playing both goalies because one does not stand out. I witnessed many goals today that should have been stopped!
    – Greeley played their hearts out and it showed, and they are very well coached. I thought they looked better than Somers did when Jay played Somers.

  62. laxnoz says:

good win for somers bello did not play a win thurs vs. rye should get momentum going agree with laxr top players need to start playing at 100%

  63. CT Lax says:

    Staples 13, Trumbull 6

    Weston 10, Newtown 9

    Darien 20, Trinity Catholic 1

    St Joseph-Trumbull 18, Bridgeport Central 1

  64. LI Lax says:

  65. laxnoz says:

good win for somers vs bh bello did not play a win thurs vs rye should get momentum going agree with laxr top players need to start playing at 100%

  66. LI Lax says:

    7-6 Set wins!

  67. Elephant Man says:

    Somers statsss…

    Donohue 4-1
    Pfiffner 3-1
    Petre 3-0
    Deiana 2-3 dominant on faceoffs

    Longo 14 savesss

  68. LAXman says:

Wow statement win for set beating a Chaminade team that crushed St. Anthony’s in their last game.

  69. Of Interest says:

Somers did look better today. However still a work in progress. Evident Coach Lew has made some adjustments.Took Byram out of there game. Deiana DOMINANT on Face-offs and GB’s.
Bello,Partenza,Tullgren Did not play. Petre did not play much after the first Qtr.
    Long Very steady.
    AND NO PENALTIES for Somers.
Rye vs Somers will be another battle!

  70. slacrosse says:

Greeley. The best and most dangerous 1-6 team in Section 1! Only “weak” loss was to Brewster.

  71. Indian J says:

The goalie situation needs to be figured out. I have only seen one game this year (Town) and based on that, and the results of all these other close games: We appear to a be young talented team that lacks killer instinct. A win is a win and Jay’s record is very good. The team has a lot to be proud of. But I have to ask: How much longer will the players and coaches go before they get sick of inferior teams and programs hanging in there, boosting their morale, at Jay’s expense? Obviously, the coaches know the game very well. Obviously, there is talent. Beat Corning East. Cover the spread on one of your Section opponents. If you don’t want to worry about the score, but rather about how you are playing the game, then win the GBs, win the FOs. Those are hustling contests, not something you need to be an All American to do.

Right now, the theme on this blog after every Jay game is “They are not that good.” “We almost beat them and will certainly beat them next time” ” I’d like to play them again in May” These local teams you guys play are cruisin for a bruisin. Give it to em.

Corning East is next. Lets Go

  72. Joe Lombardi says:

Very true, slacrosse. A few standouts to mention for Greeley: senior middies Dan Leventhal (three goals) and Kyle Shaub (faceoffs) as well as senior defenseman Hunter Bastian, who limited Mike Daniello to one goal and two assists.

By the way, what are your preliminary thoughts on Somers-Rye game on Thursday?

  73. Townie says:

    Ytown

    Schuldt 4-1
    Lieberman 1-2
    KI 2-0
    Porcelli 0-3
Koelsch – 12 saves (he was excellent!)

    PV

    Kelly 4-1
    Christopher 2-2

  74. slax says:

pfiffner 3g 1a and deiana 2g 4a for somers, finally started to play a little better as a team

  75. Laximus says:

Deina has like 9 goals in the last 3 games. Too bad this kid didn’t realize he would have had a big time D-1 career in lax and gone that route. I heard he’s going to prep school for football. Why? He should finally realize LAX is where it’s AT.

  76. slacrosse says:

    Joe,

You usually catch correct picks? I had the 10-9 town win (#13 above).

Town was playing most of the game w/o KI who got hurt. Also Lieberman and maybe other starters sat out the 1st Q??.

Teams looked pretty similar (remember Town missing key players) but IMO the tipping point for Town was in D where they stripped the ball and did better in ground balls. Both goalies looked pretty sharp.

PV’s “carpet” turf begs to be shot on with ground balls which just stay on the carpet. PV may have taken more advantage of this then Town.

  77. Joe Lombardi says:

My apologies, slacrosse. I read your pick when it was posted and it didn’t hit me till just now you nailed it. Well done. In a season of the unexpected where any team can beat any other team on any given day, you have been a model of consistency. That’s why I asked for your thoughts on Somers-Rye having seen both teams.

  78. mike bean says:

Prediction Corning 6 John Jay 14

  79. LI Lax says:

CE will beat John Jay by 3 or 4 goals…

    Any score for L/P-Penn Yan

  80. laxified says:

LI Lax had the Cham-Set game almost excactly right if you had only picked Set. A fantastic lacrosse game played in front of a huge loud crowd. Cham is really, really good. They work very hard and have some huge fast athletes and probably deserved to win. This game will really help Set in my opinion. They had some guys who looked a little overwhelmed by the moment, understandably so, but they battled, settled down and they overcame it. Should serve them well vs CSH because the style of game will be the same but without the athletes Cham has. At least not the depth. A rematch with LaFayette is more than possible.

  81. Benlaxman says:

    John Jay 13 Greeley 10

Jay found another ugly win keeping Greeley in the game until the last 3:36 when Greeley No 22 scored their last Goal to make it 12-10 Jay. You almost felt that you were looking at the Rye game all over again where outside shots closed the gap. The Jay goalies once again sharing halves made enough saves to give them the win coupled with their offense which once again spread the scoring around. The margin could have easily been greater but for 2 disallowed goals released fractions of a second after the horn at the end of the 2nd and 3rd periods. It is also possible that one of the Jay pipes was actually a goal. The shot was high to low and the rebound bounced up (rather than down to the ground), indicating that it may have hit the lower inner pipe very near the front vertical pipe and bounced up and back out toward where it was released. Greeley should be commended for making a game of it No 11 won slightly over half of the face offs while pitted against 3 different Jay men, Walter, Weil and Freshman Tom Beck who looks to be the future at this position. Once again Jay’s scoring was very balanced as likewise was Greeley’s.

    Class A vs Class C 10-9

  87. slacrosse says:

    Indian J,

Have to agree generally with “Observer”.

At this point in the season you ARE what your record says you are. You just may not be better??. Maybe “waiting” to get better? OK.

Understand your frustration and desire for J to blow away teams. As you said J should be proud of its winning record for sure. Everyone would like to be in J’s position at 6-1. You may be good enough to win Class B and maybe go further?

But so far your “program” has ONLY been good enough to win by very close margins (except a weak Brewster team) to all teams except a weak Brewster team and got killed by a truly “superior” program in Sett.

Hey as a lot of people said last yr., maybe J’s dominant yr will be in ’11 when your really strong Jr ‘s and sophs are a yr older?

Agree with you on goalie situation. As “Benlaxman” said, if you want to judge goalies, fine but why not judge them in a more realistic situation of seeing the kids play in the ebbs and flows of ENTIRE games??

Good luck to Jay (except vs Rye) for the rest of the season.

  88. Sec1 says:

Coach Marr sat his player to send a message, they are not playing as a Team, Captain’s not showing leadership on or off field. The message is more important then winning. If they want to win Sec everybody needs to step up, they have alot of young players getting alot of mins. What that tell s you is they are not that deep as in past, but will help in future. Also McLee, Fusco, Donovan hurt, now maybe KI. Put Valley is a good team played hard, Town fans not use to this kind of play, but give credit to team they could have lost this game, but didn’t. Prop’s to Ty Schuldt he steped up and was the diff on O and F/O, also Frosh Nick Mariano and Soph Connor Gately trying to find open man, some nice hits by D and were agressive on GB, a work in progress.

  89. slacrosse says:

    Joe,

I can’t do scores when Rye is playing. But I will be realistic and say (as I did with J) that Somers would be a solid favorite. Obviously from Rye’s standpoint if Somers is playing up to their potential, Rye will certainly need to put together two solid halves of play. Let’s see. How bout the second half play from the Jay game and the 1st half play form PV??? Sound good to me!!

  90. slacrosse says:

My reference to “J” above was to the J/rye game, not J/Somers.

  91. Just sayin says:

I heard Deiana was 14 of 14 on faceoffs today vs Byram. AMAZING!

  92. slacrosse says:

    Sec1,
Felt the same way. Dont know the team like you but at the game was thinking, hey Town is playing pretty darn well (against a competitive team) w/o KI and numbers of starters!

  93. Joe Lombardi says:

Just sayin – Not sure where you heard that, but you heard wrong. Matt did excel in the faceoff X today, but Erik Pfiffner and Anthony Lombardo also took faceoffs for Somers in its 13-4 win over Byram Hills.

  94. HV Lax says:

    Benlaxman-

Those two shots that went in after time expired were not goals. its hard to judge, but the balls were definitely hitting the ground (bounce shots) when the horn sounded.
and I don’t remember any inside post shots for Jay, but I do remember one for Greeley that seemed to rebound behind the goal, not sure how that happened.

Also, I think your stats are a little off. No. 11 (Shaub) definitely won more than half the face offs. Also, Daniello only had 1 goal.
There are a couple of other numbers that don’t add up in there either.

  95. observer says:

Anyone ready for the war on Thursday,

    Mahopac
    Town

looks even i really dont no

  96. Doid23 says:

Hmmm, young teams, early in the season, JoJo gone for Somers, new coach at John Jay. Seems to be a lot of surprise here that Jay’s not blowing people away, I’m not, they are who they are. Who knows how good they’ll be at the end of the season, but as others have said, maybe they’re just an above average team, maybe good but not great. With all of the angst, though, 6-1 ain’t so bad.

On the J goalie situation, though, I’ll repeat what I said earlier: If you have 2 goalies, then you don’t have any. Time to pick one (haven’t seen either play, so I don’t have an opinion either way) and let him play.

I think a win over Corning East would have to be considered an upset.

  97. river_brat says:

Ossining was sluggish and all around bad today, while Brewster was full of nothing but hustle. Good job by them.

Ossining had over ten penalties…OVER ten.

It looks like they took all of Somers penalties from them. lol.

    Brewster had 3 or 4?

Honestly though, a kid from O got punched in the head and was called for a penalty. Another middie got knocked down and was called for a penalty.

Something was obviously not right, but enough about it because not every call was questionable and Brewster hustled, worked hard and made good plays. They’re not a great team, they’re a solid team that is well coached and has good stick skills.

The game was basically over at 7-1 at half and O spent a lot of the second half playing second and third line players mix and match with the starters and then fourth qtr. was mostly subs.

Brewster did a lot of subbing too in the fourth and finished the game with mostly subs on the field. Both teams kept their starting goalies in throughout.

I remember reading in this blog at the beginning of the season, someone said, “Brewster is the kind of team you always think you can beat, but never want to play.” lol.

As Predict-O-Tron suggested, and a lot of people picked them and they laid an egg so it’s back into the quagmire for them!

O has Arlington on Thursday, Brewster has Hauppauge (sp?) on Saturday.

  98. LI Lax says:

Brewster-Hauppauge won’t be much of a game from what I saw of Brewster at L12A tournament…Hauppauge should win by 5 or more.

About Huntington-SWR…Huntington has some good players, but they just don’t have as much depth as SWR does and that began to show in the second half. I think SWR is a good team, but they would probably struggle in Division I this year (by struggle I mean lose 3 games or so, as the top teams are all that good.)

  99. OssiningLaxParent says:

I was at the Ossining game at Brewster as well. Brewster goalie shut down Ossining for most of the game. I was impressed.

  100. SirLaxalot says:

Tremendous job Joe keeping up on all the action. This site is a pleasure to read each day/night. Your efforts and the insights of all the readers makes this blog by far the #1 source for lax information in the nation’s #1 hotbed.

  101. BigButts&aSmile says:

    SirLaxalot,

Joe is the best…a true gentleman and a dedicated professional. we are lucky to have him provide this service.

  102. Benlaxman says:

    HV Lax,

Not sure what you are trying to prove? Obviously they were not goals. I said, “The margin could have easily been greater but for 2 disallowed goals released fractions of a second after the horn at the end of the 2nd and 3rd periods.” Just like pipes it was close. The stick in each case was in motion but the ball didn’t leave until after the horn. There were a number of other close Jay shots, but the score was the score. As for face offs, I record what happens on every face off… Who, who gets it. IP’s, pushes & etc. How do you keep track? (Ask slacrosse, he’s seen my system)! Of course there is always a possibility that I got one wrong… when recorded… but the numbers must add up as to total FO’s!

  103. Benlaxman says:

    Thanks HV Lax,
Rechecked my stats and you are correct. Daniello had 1 goal and 1 assist. Weil had 2 goals and not 1 as I reported. (See 82 above)

  104. greenpiece says:

Don’t know why Town sat some players early but it showed in first quarter–lack of ball control and not very fluid. Younger guys played but did not dominate. When Ki went out it was not the younger guys who stood up–Schuldt a Jr. and Lieberman took over. Schuldt had 4 gs, won most FO’s with the help of wingman #7, and played everywhere. Lieberman ran a settled O (finally), carried well and made two great plays to seal the win. They need their “A” starters to beat Pac–if they come out as weak and sloppy as they did against PV, Pac wins. When Town made its run last year to the semi’s it was Schuldt scoring at least a g every game and Lieberman having multi goal games throughout the run that kept it going–look at stats. Need Mabus and those two to play and play hard for Town to take section. Town can play much better than it did against PV–if they want to. PV very athletic well coached and great middies. PV is young and will be a force for next year too.

  105. Stats says:

    Must be a mis-print.

Somers did win a big majority of the face-offs. Deiana was at the X for most of them. Pfiffner, and Lombardo all face-off. I would say 10-for 11, 11-12 something like that would be more accurate.
Looks like KI, is going to be fine. Just a tweak.
Any word on C McCormack’s status from Rye. If Deiana, and Cole are playing , it should be a great matchup on faceoffs Thursday.

Another note. It seems that this is one year as is the case in college that anyone , on any given day can win a game. The Y-Towns, Somers, Jays, Lakelands etc are not dominating day in and day out. This just means to the obvious that more players from all programs are playing more Winter, spring , summer etc. Let’s stop blaming, schedules, travel, individ players and coach’s for the way high school kids who always have a lot to deal with anyway play and perform. Let’s just enjoy the fact that Section 1 is growing each year with more teams, and players and parity makes things real interesting.

  106. Old Rugger says:

Well said Stats. I’m loving Parity. Sorry Ossining picked that game to be tighter,

  107. Lax123 says:

Looking forward to Pac vs Town Thursday. Should be a good one. Anybody know who is out for Town. and Pac .

  108. slacrosse says:

    HV Lax,

Yeah got to admit Benlaxman keeps a tight set of stats. Tried to talk to him during a game and was politely but “candidly” told to wait until a time-out so he could pay attention! Not to say for sure that he or anyone else gets them right all the time.

  109. somers alum says:

laximus, no doubt if deiana stayed with lacrosse from 8th grade and played winter and summer ball he would have been one of the top recruits in the county
pretty amazing for a kid who does not pick up a lacross stick until the firts day of practice.i played with matt when he was an 8th grader.he plays the same way the kid never gives up on ground balls .whats scary he has learned to shoot,no one can match up with his speed and power.lets go somers show the section what you are made of

  110. slacrosse says:

    Stats,

Agree with your comment about parity so dont know why I’d predict but will anyway.

    Pac 12-10 over Town.

  111. Another_O_Lax_Parent says:

I was at the Ossining/Brewster game too.

I agree the Brewster goalie was superb and their team played very well.

But also agree with the brat, above, their was something amiss with the penalties. Ossining is not a “chippy” team; they play hard, but clean. Some of the penalties were obviously correct, but they were made to play well over a qtr of that game a man down, and honestly, some of the calls had me scratching my head.

Hats off to Brewster on a workman-like win. This may have been the type of game they needed to kick it into a higher gear.

And for O, back to the drawing board and try to finish the week on a high note. They’ll bounce back along the way.

    Well done, Bears.

And as an aside, we’re all probably getting spoiled with artificial turf and that is the nicest real grass surface I’ve seen yet this year – dusty around the goals as you can expect. A beautiful school and facility, filled with healthy happy-looking kids.

  112. Benlaxman says:

    Slacrosse,

I was that polite? And yes, no one is perfect, including the official score keepers! You try to get the numbers “right” because they and your “eyes” tell you “something.” As you know, why should/would we cook the books? We have no one on any team to promote.

  113. T.B. Toad says:

Any Harrison – Fox Lane reports?

  114. mad_lax says:

    nice win for l/p

  115. D-PAC says:

slacrosse, Hope you are dead on about that prediction!

  116. slacrosse says:

    mad_lax,

Not too much talk about that but I agree that LP had a real nice win. PJ’s 1st loss and I think they play some pretty decent competition winning close games.
