The Rye Garnets’ run of four straight Section 1 Class C titles ended last season with a 10-7 setback to Putnam Valley last June in the sectional finsld.

Junior defenseman Michael Collins (shown defending against Rye Country Day’s J.P. Garry last season) will be among the players the Garnets will be counting on if they are to regain sectional supremacy.

What have you been doing to get ready for the season?
I have been playing winter league, lifting, running and working on stick skills with some of my teammates.

How does your scrimmage schedule look and which ones are you looking forward to most?
Rye’s scrimmage schedule looks good, we are planning to travel to Maryland  and play Dulhany, Md., and Walt Whitman, Md.

What players on your team do you think will surprise some people this season?
Players I think that will surprise are junior defenseman Max Bonsall and junior midfield Christian Bonaventura.

What do you think the strength of your team will be this year?
Rye’s strengths are with faceoffs with Cole McCormack and goaltending with Michael Linehan.

Is there extra incentive going into the season to reclaim a sectional championship after falling in the finals to Putnam Valley last year?
In respect to the PV game, yes it was a tough loss but I don’t think this team needs any extra incentive. Rye’s goals are always to win a championships. That being said we will take it one game at a time starting in in Maryland  and if we make it to the end and PV is there well we will be ready as a team.

While starting on D for Rye’s football team he also (along with a few other Rye football/lacrosse kids) was traveling to lacrosse tournaments on Sundays. Tremendous devotion to the game and to improving his skills. Also sure he made an All-Star team for rising Juniors in one of the top tournaments (playing for LI Sting).
