If you checked out our Updated recruiting review and commitment rundown” post at this time yesterday, you learned of the commitment of one of the leading players in the Hudson Valley.

Rising senior star Anthony Berardis of defending Section 1 Class A champion Mahopac, a member of the 2010 HV Empire State Games team, gave a verbal commitment to Stony Brook and new coach Jim Nagle, the former head coach at Colgate.

Nagle did a good job of scouring the Hudson Valley region in his 10 years with the Raiders and has made it a priority to do just that at Stony Brook.

The 6-foot-2 Berardis, a dodging midfielder, has good size, speed and athleticism.

Berardis, who scored the winning goal in Mahopac’s 12-11 double overtime win over Yorktown, selected the Seawolves over Albany, Penn State, Ohio State, Hofstra and Siena.

Here’s a Q&A with Anthony on his commitment:

What were the main factors in your decision to attend Stony Brook?
When I went for my visit, I automatically fell in love with the campus and facilities.

Another main reason was that Stony Brook has a great academic reputation and has the major that I am interested in.

After sitting down with Coach (Jim) Nagle, I felt really comfortable and knew that I wanted to play for him and the Stony Brook lacrosse program.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
Early on I was considering Siena.  After my junior year was completed I was considering Albany, Penn State, Ohio State and Hofstra. I visited Siena, Hofstra and Albany.

What adjustments do you think you will need to make to play at the next level?
I need to work on my strength and my shooting abilities with my right hand.  I also need to adjust to the speed of the college level.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My strengths as a player are my speed and dodging ability.  I also have great vision of the field.  I would describe my style of play as aggressive and fast-paced.

What players have you looked up to as you have moved up through the varsity ranks?
Okie Bernabo, John Brandofino, and Chase Thompson.  All three helped me develop as a player.

When did you first realize you had the potential to play at the college level?
When I was a sophomore and received letters from college coaches during the summer. Also making the Hudson Valley Empire team as a sophomore presented tremendous opportunity.
