Sophomore attackman Jack Grass scored four goals on Saturday as Bronxville started the season in impressive fashion, winning 9-1 at Fox Lane.

It’s become an annual routine.

CHSAA play twice during the regular season (usually splitting those two games), with the rubber match in the postseason for the championship.

Will this year follow that familiar scenario?

We’ll have a better idea after “Round 1” is completed today as Chaminade hosts the Friars.

Two other Catholic programs – Fordham Prep and Iona Prep – will also be playing their own “Rund 1” of an intense CHSAA rivalry.

Also of note today, John Jay, coming off a 12-7 season-opening loss to Yorktown, will try to grit out a win today at Rye. Both teams are banged up, so expect a lower scorer affair than normal.

Here’s a rundown of today’s schedule:

  1. ROLAX says:

I think JJ will have a tough time with Rye

    • #1Fan says:

      John Jay 10 Rye 6 Final. Daniello 4, G Weil 3 G, Walter 1, B. Morris 1 and 1 Lupinnacci

      • Indian J says:

So Walter came back and was playing I guess. That’s a nice rebound. Rye brought back some talent this season.

  2. SlingBlade says:

Rye over JJ, Barton 2-1… Bear Facts, where do you get off spreading lies about 17-18 year old boys, I dont know what school you are affiliated with but you will be sadly mistaken for counting Somers out already, look for them to bounceback.

  3. clam says:

heres where you will see if empires helps or not. JJ did the summer tour and Rye did the gruelling emps.

  4. GreenBear says:

Huge game today- Pac vs Arlington…thoughts…Preview of Section Final? Be careful of a underated Arlington team!

  5. GreenBear says:

Big game today- Pac vs Arlington…watch out for Arlington….thoughts?

  6. betterthanbaseball says:

Would love to see Arlington prevail over Pac, but wouldn’t be one to say it will happen.

    • Arlington Fan says:

I’ll say it. Arlington has a strong defense and if 32 for Arlington can shut down Foley like he did against 33 from Put Valley last week then Arlington can score enough to win.

      • slacrosse says:

It would be a quality win which would be great for the program.

Careful.Pac has a number of very good players other then Foley including Bernarbis and Cirrillo.

        Good luck.

        • D-Pac says:

          s lacrosse

It’s Berardis and they don’t have a Cirrillo. Evans is the other middie and,Bota,Gyscek and carey are the attackmen.

      • wizard2 says:

#33 from Putnam Valley had 4 goals 2 assit. vs Arlington you call that shutting someone down?

        • Mr Reality says:

#33 had 3 unsettled goals in 1st half, twice off a short stick middie on clears. 1 goal off a shortie in 2nd half. #32 locked him down when 1 on 1. #32 held foley to 1 goal 1 on 1 tonight with foley getting one garbage loose ball goal and one unsettled. Not saying you’re wrong, but number of goals can be deceiving!!!!!!!

      • laxxx says:

hahaha 32 doesnt even play defense half of the time! do you even watch the games?

  7. SlingBlade says:

Foley will not be shut down, 5 goals

  8. upstate says:

on a sloppy, cold, wet afternoon anything can happen. i will give the nod to an underrated arlington squad. if i know anything about mahopac, it is that they can rattle off a few really bad games before they get moving. it seems like every year they drop an early game or two and then they roll out the excuse wagon on the blog-o-sphere. I take arlington over pac 9 to 7.

    • D-Pac says:

Upstate, no excuses. Just an ugly win over an overrated team.

      • Bp says:

Pac is over rated every year! When’s the last time this “power” won a game that meant anything. Arlington is a 10 years old program trying to grow. With wins over Brewster and pv which people have ranked as top ten how could they be over rated. Ohh yeah and after a horrible 1st quarter they were up in the 4th and missed 4 point blank shots. Pac was lucky to get out of there with a win! Don’t be a hater! Make no mistake nobody at arlington is running around saying they are great. Their just a young program trying to grow as a and get better.

        • LoveTownLax says:

Bp, you are dead-on about Arlington, they will be contenders sooner than later…. and they have played very well so far this season. D-Pac, that comment was catty.. and not accurate.

        • D-Pac says:

          BP and LOVE

Pac is what they are, a top 5 or 6 Section 1 team. Show some respect. They had big wins last year over Somers (B finalist), beat Put Valley (C champ), Northport, and a double ot loss to state semifinalist LP. Pac is the only Section 1 team other than Town to win a state championship. How can they be overrated when they are always a decent team? They are still behind Town, Jay , Lakeland. Let’s see how the season plays out. Arlington is improving every year and will be a powerhouse sooner than later. They have a great coach as well. But, when you say they are better than Pac, it is incorrect. That is like saying Pac is better than Town. Until proven different, that is not the case. There is a pecking order and each team has their place. I am not knocking any team, just prove it on the field. Let’s all have a great season.

          • Bp says:

D pac I didn’t say arlington is better. I just thought the comment ugly win over an over rated team was a bit weak….

          • LoveTownLax says:

If you notice, D-Pac, I said nothing about your team. I was referring strictly to you and your “over-rated” comment, and did not say, nor infer, that Arlington was better than Mahopac. I didn’t see the game, so couldn’t possibly judge. D-Pac, it is YOU that showed no respect to Arlington, an up-and-coming team that beat both Brewster and Putnam Valley this season! You always knock other teams on this blog, and are very defensive. And why are you referring to Mahopac beating Town – that was YEARS ago! How is that relevant to this year?

          • JJ110 says:

            DPac
Always bringing up last year. You dont
have an AA or two all section scorers on this team and a three year starting goalie.Beat Town the we talk

          • D-Pac says:

Who said anything about Town? You made the comment that Pac is terrible. Compared to who? Pac puts a good team on the field every year. I agree with Westlax when he ranked Pac 4th in Section 1. Only the remaining games will prove if they are better or worse. Terrible, what are you thinking JJ? You should know better.

          • slacrosse says:

            JJ110,LoveTown,Bp,

            You guys are right on.

D-Pac wonders why his comments get no respect? Maybe if he stopped dumping on other teams and sometimes groups of kids on teams and stop bragging about Pac, he’s get more positive attention.

          • D-Pac says:

            Love

Who referred about Pac beating Town? Try reading what I said again. I commented on JJ’s response that Pac is terrible. If anyone showed disrespect to a team it was him. I have a lot of respect for Arlington. They will be a powerhouse. You said it right, they are up and coming. For BP to say that Pac is overrated every year is the most “caddy” remark ever. I didn’t start it, but when you make stupid comments, know the facts.

          • LoveTownLax says:

i don’t need to read again, i was referring to your comment about the one year Mahopac won states…. and I don’t see where JJ said Pac was terrible. Those, again, are your words… Pac is always a decent team, and I am confident they work and try as hard as any team out there, and are good kids. It is your commentary that is the problem, not the team….. this time, YOUR COMMENT ABOUT ARLINGTON BEING OVER-RATED… Can we end this now????

          • No more fighting says:

            LTL,
I am not sticking up for D-Pac because I dont agree with what he says but JJ110 did say “Pac is Terrible” you could find it posted on April 4th in the Gameday Tuesday 3/29 Post

Chaminade completely dominated the third quarter according to Ty and now enters the fourth with a 9-4 lead.

      • LI Lax says:

10-4 with a few minutes left. Chaminade continues to dominate in the early season matchup in this rivalry. Will be the fourth consecutive year they won the first game.

      • LI Lax says:

  27. Lax Novice says:

Great job, Chris, thank Ty for us and mail him a handwarmer. Is he surprised at the margin Chaminade won by?

  28. Mark Crumm says:

    10-6 Final JJ

  29. LI Lax says:

He expected it to be a closer game, but from the texts I got he was extremely impressed with Chaminade’s defense in the second half, especially Connors. He said that they barely allowed SA any open looks at the cage, and when they did Connors stuffed them quite a few times.

Don’t read too much into it though, Chaminade’s won the early game the last two years and lost in the final. Right now I do think they are the better team, had that suspicion going in, but I doubt the situation will be the same when the teams meet again.

  30. LAX says:

    Arlington/Mahopac score?

  31. upstate says:

Got a score from a guy who was at the game: Mahopac beat Arlington 10-8. I guess arlington was up but mahopac came back in the fourth quarter. no box score or anything, just a final.

    • betterthanbaseball says:

Arlington has a lot to be proud of today, they played a solid game, as well as Mahopac. Congrats to both.

  32. Pac Man says:

Arlington was up 7-6 after 3. They are much improved from last year. TJ Foley and Jon Bota each had 4 goals for Mahopac.Scoring for Arlington was pretty evenly distributed.

  33. CLax says:

    Pville 15, Westlake 2
    Byram Hills 16, Harrison 7

  34. laxman says:

wheres slacrosse? Want to hear about JJ/Rye and he’s always the best at the write ups, especially for Rye

  35. Gonzo says:

    Briarcliff def Keio 8-4

  36. WestLax says:

    Rye vs. John Jay
John Jay came right out off the 1st face off and went up 3-0. Jay looked like they had something to prove. Rye settled down and Barton went on a tear end of the 1/2 it was 5-5. Second half John Jay went to a zone and it really made Rye struggle (2 years in a row hopefully the Dooley’s can figure it out). Jay had control the whole second half with good ball movement and made Rye pay on the 3 to 4 penalties they took. Bright spots for Rye were Barton, Faceoffs and Goalie (10th grader). Rye plays Iona tomorrow I believe they will bounce back as did Jay yesterday.

  37. Pride Lax says:

Thanks for including the New England private schools in the schedule. Lots of big games today for teams like Exeter, Trinity Pawling, Taft, Suffield, Avon Old Farms, etc.

  38. jeffreyp says:

watched St. A’s on tv the other against delbarton, and was very impressed, chaminade must be very good to handle them like they did

  39. Pork Chop Serum says:

2 years in a row Chaminade easily handled St A’s at home then lost at St. A’s then lost in CHSAA final. Tough to win on Chamionade’s field it is literally a smaller field so opposing players are always stepping out of bounds without realizing it and losing possesion

  40. slacrosse says:

Congrats to Jay in its 10-6 win over Rye yesterday. A mobile Daniello had a dominant role on O scoring, setting up plays and making the O move but Jay got scoring from several other players as well. To Jay’s credit, they usually capitalized on Rye’s mistakes, most painfully so on man-up penalties which plagued Rye in the second half.

This was Rye’s 1st game and the score was 5-5 at half. Rye had a few other scoring chances in the game but full credit to Jay’s goalie who made some great saves. In the 1st half thought Rye moved the ball well on O allowing Barton to score 3 of his 4 goals. Rye got a good share of FO and it’s 1st yr varsity, soph goalie played pretty well keeping in mind that 3-4 of Jay’s goals came on man-up.

Aside from Rye’s D getting sloppy on slides, etc, in the 2nd half, Jay also started controlling possession time among other reasons because Rye was getting some 1-2 minute penalties. Rye needs to be more disciplined going forward. Also credit to Jay for mixing up defenses and I believe more closely guarding Barton. Although Barton dominated scoring for Rye the team has other proven scorers (1 missing) who can go multiple goals and I’m sure will be contributing going forward.

Rye will improve over the season. I look at this as a “first game” loss to a improving very good Jay team with Daniello’s performance tangibly contributing to Jay’s win. Daniello is an “elite” national player for a reason!

Rye, like Jay and many other teams is also not without injuries. So optimism also comes from Rye shortly getting back one of its starting senior middies who should really help on O and sometimes DM. Another previously injured senior Middie just came back, made a solid contribution and hopefully will continue to get to 100% over the season.

    • Stickhead says:

Looks like Duffy was listed as the JJ goalie for the 2nd half and sounds like he played real well vs Rye..are the JJ goalies being rotated…anyone know what deal is?

    • sec1lax says:

was very impressed with rye’s one on one defense against mike Daniello as they stripped him on slides a few times. team defense was not great as their slides were sloppy but one on one rye’s defense looked very sound. Barton was dominant on the offensive end and JJ ended up face gaurding and shutting him off, also looked like he was battling some sort of injury or possible cramping. overall jay just had more weapons and won time of possession.

  41. clam says:

    Duffy is now the starter!

  42. P&G says:

Rye will be fine…They are and will be a very good team. You could tell it was there first game. If anyone can figure it out it will be the Dooleys. As stated, Barton was impressive. Wouldn’t want to play them later in the year.

    • NYmike says:

Yep – I bet they will be tough later in the season, it isn’t like any one team is going to have to play them twice in 5 days or anything like that.

  43. D-Pac says:

    S Lacrosse,

I do not diss teams or players. From the start I asked your justification of why you put Rye ahead of Pac in your rankings. You said because they have a lot of seniors returning and have a strong offense and D. When I told you that Pac had the same # of returning players etc.. , you, or another blogger told me that you had three defenders from Empires. I never said that Rye’s D wasn’t any good. I just said that I thought Pac’s was better. Can’t I feel that way? As far as the “overrated comment of Arlington, that was because of the comment made by either BP or JJ that Pac was terrible. It seems that people say things about Pac and it is alright. I hereby call a truce and let’s enjoy the season.

    • slacrosse says:

Fine. No I didn’t and would not have made any kind of “empire” reference as it has nothing to do with this season, etc. Maybe when silly stuff is said like that either dont respond or just say its not relevant and move on.

  44. LoveTownLax says:

WHERE is this “Pac is terrible” comment? I don’t see it anywhere!!!! take responsibility for your comment, don’t blame it on someone else “because of their comment…” you can feel anyway you want, just don’t put down other teams while elevating yours. It’s petty.

    • No more fighting says:

LTL, not sticking up for D-Pac because I dont agree with what he says but JJ110 did say “Pac is Terrible” you can find it in the Gameday Tuesday 3/29 post

      • LoveTownLax says:

kk, thanks No more. I really meant it when I said I couldn’t find it, and it’s because it was on a different thread. And I agree with D-Pac… they are not terrible. They are a good team and are working hard to get even better, as all our boys are.

      • D-Pac says:

Thanks No more. I knew I wasn’t crazy. That is the comment that set me off. Let’s enjoy the season.
