Lax is back in a big way Saturday after nearly all teams in the tristate took a break for Good Friday.

A busy Saturday of action is highlighted by a full day of action on Long Island and a big intersection showdown of downstate NY powers.

In a matchup of national heavyweights, two-time Suffolk Class A champ Smithtown East visits 2014 state champ Massapequa at 10:30 a.m.

Garden City, coming off a 6-3 season-opening loss to Syosset, hosts Smithtown West at 11 a.m. West lost to Manhasset by a goal in its opener.

In another LI showdown, three-time defending CHSAA Nassau-Suffolk AAA champ Chaminade hosts Suffolk juggernaut West Islip at 11:30 a.m.

Mamaroneck, which has won three Section 1 Class A titles the last four years, hosts Sachem North of Section 11 at 1 p.m.

In another Westchester vs. Suffolk battle, Mahopac (Section 1) and Northport (Section 11) renew their annual rivalry at noon at Northport’s Veterans Park Complex.

Across the Hudson River, Rockland County rivals Suffern and Nyack meet in a high noon game at Suffern.

Connecticut lacrosse fans can get set for the start of the season by attending the annual Darien Pre-Season Jamboree, hosted by the two-time state champ Blue Wave at 9 a.m.

In girls lacrosse, Yorktown will celebrate its four New York state championship teams when it hosts Arlington at 12:30 p.m. at Charlie Murphy Field.
