We told you earlier this month about one of the best lacrosse communities not only in New York, but the nation — Yorktown — coming together to support lacrosse standout Brielle Furci, 15, who has been diagnosed with Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer and is starting up to three months of chemotheraphy.
Turns out much of the lacrosse community has rallied behind the effort, including from some of Yorktown’s varsity rivals, and from lacrosse communities well beyond the borders of Westchester County.
“I want to thank everyone for their support,” Brielle wrote on the GoFundMe page. “Everything that I am going through is really hard but knowing that i am surrounded by so much love makes it all that much easier.
“I am honestly scared for what is to come but I appreciate knowing that the whole community cares. Thank you all so much for your kindness and generosity.”
Jeff Brameier, the head coach of two-time defending Connecticut state champion (and Yorktown rival) Darien, posted a note of support on Twitter.
“Please support if you can!!” Brameier Tweeted. “Lacrosse always has an extended family.”
Brendan Forst, a junior on the Bronxville boys varsity team and 2017 Predators Lacrosse team, has reached out to players on both teams to help raise money by hosting lacrosse lessons for youth players where all profits went towards Brielle’s treatment. A total of $2,000 was raised, including a $1,000 donation from the Predators.
Support for the GoFundMe page has come from as far away as Texas.
The Dallas-Forth Worth Youth Lacrosse program (@) Tweeted: “
