We have our Section 1 (NY) final-round matchup, Section 11 (NY) Class A semifinal pairings and Section 8 (NY) title-game parings all set as a result of games played Tuesday.
Here’s a quick sneak peek ahead:
In the Section 1 finals tomorrow, it will be six familiar foes battling for titles: Mahopac vs. Mamaroneck in Class A, Yorktown vs. John Jay in Class B and Bronxville vs. Pleasantville in Class C. Yorktown and Bronxville are not only defending sectional champs, but state champs as well.
Moving to Suffolk, Friday’s sectional semis will feature No. 1 Northport hosting No. 5 Ward Melville and the latest Running of the Bulls as Smithtown West, the No. 6 seed, visiting No. 2 Smithtown East.
Next Tuesday’s 8 p.m. Nassau Class B final will pit Wednesday’s Lynbrook/South winner against Manhasset, which beat Garden City 8-7 in overtime in the 128th Woodstick Classic Tuesday.
Today’s schedule is highlighted by the annual CHSAA AAA Nassau-Suffolk title game between St. Anthony’s and Chaminade.
When we say annual, we don’t mean literally every year, but almost. The Friars and Flyers have played for the title 11 straight seasons.
As if that’s not enough, they split their two regular-season games, with the home team win by a single goal both times.
Chaminade has won the last two titles following a stretch of four straight St. Anthony’s wins.
Game-time is 4:45 p.m. at Mitchel Field in Uniondale.
The programs’ JV teams met yesterday for their title, and Chaminade won 10-7.
Right next door to Mitchel Field, at Hofstra’s Shuart Stadium, we will have another Nassau semifinal tripleheader.
Here’s the rundown of games we’re highlighting for today:
Section 8 (NY) semifinals at Hofstra
Port Washington vs. Syosset, 5:30 p.m.
B2-1 Lynbrook vs. B2-3 South Side, 8 p.m.
No. 3 Mineola vs. No. 2 Locust Valley, 3:30 p.m.
Section 9 (NY) semifinals
Minisink/Monroe winner at No. 1 Warwick, 5 p.m.
Pine Bush/Kingston winner at No. 2 Valley Central, 6 p.m.
No. 4 Goshen at No. 1 Cornwall, 4 p.m.
No. 3 Saugerties at No. 2 Highland, 7 p.m.
