There were no upsets of note Wednesday, but plenty of interesting outcomes in the NY/NJ/CT tristate hotspot.
* Connetquot, the lone remaining unbeaten team in Suffolk County on Long Island and coming off a 6-11 season, upped its record to 12-0 with a 10-6 win over Sachem North. Connetquot plays Northport (12-1) Friday.
* Delbarton improved to 10-1 with an 11-6 win over Westfield (9-3) in New Jersey.
* Massapequa’s win streak is now 30 straight on Long Island. The Chiefs’ most recent win came against Farmingdale 11-6.
* Defending Suffolk (NY) Class A champ Smithtown East showed its offensive depth — and firepower — in a 14-7 win at Smithtown West. Four East-side Bulls — Sean Barry, Connor DeSimone, Dan Rooney and Brian Willetts — scored three goals as SE improved to 11-1.
* Greenwich squandered a three-goal second-half lead but came back to beat rival Staples 7-6 in overtime on a Scooter Harrington goal with 42 seconds left in OT. Will Perry had three goals for GHS.
Now, to today.
The annual Tom Lener Cup game between interstate rivals Yorktown and Darien is set for 4:30 p.m. at Darien High School’s oval field (adjacent to the main stadium). Lener, who died in November 2008 at age 50, was a longtime fan whose passion for the game resonated with fans from both programs. Unbeaten Darien takes a 30-game win streak into the game.
