* This week’s LaxLessons Top 25 Tristate rankings

* High School Scoreboard, Wednesday, April 30

LL2014HSGAMEDAYApril went out kicking and screaming, with an array of postponements caused by heavy rain in the nation’s No. 1 hotspot for lacrosse, the NY/NJ/CT tristate region.

Now, May gets under way with some mega matchups.

We begin — where else? — in the epicenter of the hotspot, Long Island.

It will be the Battle of Smithtown as East meets West. For the second straight year, the meeting between intra-district Suffolk (NY) rivals Smithtown West and Smithtown East will be played on the home turf of the East-side Bulls in a much-awaited 4:30 p.m. affair.

Smithtown West enters the game unbeaten and as the No. 1-ranked team in the tristate. Smithtown East, ranked No. 12, has just two losses — in Game 1 to Rocky Point and last week to Sachem North, snapping an eight-game win streak.

Also in Suffolk, the Ward Melville/Sachem North game that had been scheduled for Wednesday, but was postponed because of heavy rain, will now be played today at 6 p.m. at Sachem North.

Two of the top title contenders in the FCIAC meet in a 5 p.m. game at Greenwich as the Cardinals host New Canaan.

Two other tristate premier programs square off under the lights as Ridgefield (CT) hosts Yorktown (NY) in a 7 p.m. game at Tiger Hollow Stadium.

After a one-sided loss to Chaminade earlier this season, Fordham Prep hopes to have a better fate when it faces St. Anthony’s.

Iona Prep of the CHSAA, meanwhile, will try to pick up another win against a Section 1 (NY) power. The Gaels, who beat Somers 9-4 in opening week, host John Jay.

Also of note:

Putnam Valley (NY) at Arlington (NY)

Miller Place (NY) at Bellport (NY)

St. John the Baptist (NY) at Chaminade (NY)

Darien (CT) at Danbury (CT)

St. Joseph-Trumbull (CT) at Fairfield-Warde (CT)
