The third time was a charm for Fordham Prep in 2013.

After falling to archrival Iona Prep twice during the regular season, the Rams roared back to beat the Gaels when it mattered most, in the CHSAA (N.Y.) AA title game, winning 8-4.

One of the catalysts behind FP’s championship was faceoff specialist Joe DeLasho.

Now a senior, DeLasho will be headed to Fairfield Univeristy. But for now, he’s focused on his final spring with the Rams.

recruiting_updateNow, here are Joe’s perspectives on the upcoming season.

What have you been doing to get ready for the season?
We make sure everyone is constantly in the weight room as well as morning practice three times a week.

How does your schedule look, what games are you looking forward to most, and who are some of your scrimmages against?
Our schedule this year looks pretty tough but i feel we will be up to the task. In Tampa, we play Gonzaga and they are a very good team so we are excited for that. We also play Rye, which has a lot of great players.

Last year, we lost by two to St. John the Baptist in the (CHSAA AA) downstate championship, and we’re looking to get back and beat them and make it to the state championship.

What players on your team do you think will surprise some people this season?
I think players like Anthony Febbo and Bobby Whelan will surprise some people. They will be the core of our defense behind two great goalies. Also people should look out for our junior midfielder Will Randell. He is great with his stick in both hands and were counting on him to score some goals for us.

What do you think the strength of your team will be this year?
This year our strength will be our offense. The past couple of years we relied on our defense to keep us in the game but this year i think our offense will explode.

How do you view the race in your league and who do you think some of the contending teams will be?
This year a lot of the good teams will be out of Long Island. We are excited to play these teams such as St. John’s, Kellenberg and holy trinity. We look forward to these games and hopefully we will play well against them.
