The contentious back-and-forth battle regarding the varsity coaching status of two-time defending Long Island Class C champion Shoreham-Wading River’s Tom Rotanz now appears settled.

Arini, who works in the district as a guidance counselor, is a former assistant coach at Manhattan College. He has also coached at Huntington High School (N.Y.), Bergen Catholic (N.J.) and Hanover Park High School (N.J.).
A Ward Melville High School (N.Y.) graduate, Arini played goaltender for the both the Patriots and at the junior college level at Alfred State, where he was team captain and MVP his senior season in 2005.
Rotanz, who guided SWR for 19 seasons, reportedly was given the option of coaching for one final season by school officials, but declined. Rotanz has led the Wildcats to three New York state titles and last season’s Long Island Class C championship. SWR last won the state title in 2012.
