For the latest Class of 2016 commitment, we head down to the Sunshine State.

Eric Simon, goalie at Martin County High School (Fla.) and Blue Devil Elite club team, verbally committed to Delaware last week, a commitment first reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.

A 6-foot-1,  170-pound goalie righty, Simon is an agile player who is especially strong on point-blank shots thanks to his quickness and reflexes.

recruiting_updateNow, here’s a Q&A with Eric on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
The minute I walked on campus and saw the academic center, the athletic facilities and met the coaches, I knew University of Delaware was a place I wanted to learn and play lacrosse.  I like the medium size of the university, the location of the campus and the programs it offers.  The coaches seem really supportive and experienced.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I considered Rutgers University and Fairfield University.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I would say that my speed and reflexes are my greatest strengths.

What area of your game do you need to work on?
I am focusing on working on my clearing and my communication skills on the field.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
When I was in third grade my community formed a youth lacrosse league and I signed up with my friends.  My coach was looking for someone to play as goalie and I volunteered to give it a try. It led to getting involved in a travel club team and other competitive tournaments and now my desire to play lacrosse in college.

I have played basketball, soccer and baseball.

What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I have played for Blue Devil Elite in Jupiter, Florida for the past five years.  I have also played on Palm Beach Elite.  I participated at U-15 National, UPlax, Philly Showcase and Underarmour Shootout.

Any final thoughts?
I want to thank all my Blue Devil Elite coaches, Danny Loftus, Nick O’Hara and Tim Crotty. My high school coach, Justin Vantassel, and my youth coaches, Dominick Gilberti and Chris Walls.

Finally, I want to thank my family for supporting me.
