Sometimes, an athlete’s name is a perfect fit.

Meet Will Rock.

One of the most highly regarded 2017 long-stick players, the McLean, Va., native is an aggressive, strong and rangy player with good stick skills, speed. Couple that with his ideal size (6-foot-3, 185 pounds), and, well, the University of Virginia will be getting a “Rock” on defense.

The Gonzaga College High School freshman’s commitment to the Cavaliers was first reported yesterday by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.

A righty, Rock, who plays travel lacrosse for Madlax, is also a standout in football and basketball.

recruiting_updateNow, here’s a Q&A with Will on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
The coaches, the atmosphere and the academics, too.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I visited Maryland and I was going to visit Ohio State.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
Some of my strengths are groundballs, clearing and takeaway checks.

What area of your game do you need to work on?
My footwork.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse?
My brother showed me when I was young.

Any final thoughts?
I would like to thank my mom for driving me to my lacrosse games.
