It’s been a busy recruiting stretch for Bronxville. As first reported on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section on Sept. 29, BHSClass of 2017 standout Ara Atayan gave the earliest verbal commitment in Division I lacrosse history when he committed to North Carolina.

Now, Bronxville sophomore defenseman Jack Gelinas has given Bucknell its first 2016 verbal from a tristate standout.

The 5-foot-9, 160-pound Gelinas is a strong and athletic on-ball defender who also excels on groundballs and in the clearing game. He becomes the third member of the Prime Trime 2016 travel team to verbal.

You can watch Gelinas’ highlight reel here.

Gelinas is also a varsity football standout as a wide receiver and safety.

recruiting_updateNow, here’s a Q&A with Jack on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
First off, Bucknell offers an amazing academic opportunity for me as well as an unbelievably beautiful campus, which I felt were both key factors in my decision.

Next, the lacrosse team at Bucknell is outstanding and is on the rise for the future. The combination of the coaching staff and tradition makes the program very appealing for me and I felt it was a great balance of the academic, athletic and social aspects of college.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I was considering Villanova, Michigan and Penn. I visited Villanova and Michigan. Villanova was a very close second in my decision.

What area of your game do you need to work on?
I need to work on all aspects of my game. But more specifically, my off-ball defense and my left hand.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse?
I started playing lacrosse in fifth grade for BYLA (Bronxville Youth Lacrosse Association) and have continued ever since.

What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I play for the Prime Time lacrosse club up at John Jay. This summer, I attended and made the all-star teams at Elite 100 and Capital Challenge. I also went to the Villanova 150.

Any final thoughts?
First, I would like to thank my parents along with my brother and sister. Without them, none of this would be possible.

Next, I would like to thank my high school coaches at Bronxville: Tim Horgan, Bill Locher and Jake Kolb. Coach Horgan really helped me in this process, so he definitely deserves a shout out.

I also want to thank Nick Daniello, the director of Prime Time Lacrosse. I never took lacrosse seriously until I made Prime Time in seventh grade so, Prime Time was always a big supporter of me.

Lastly, I would like to thank my friends, extended family and teammates for always encouraging me to succeed and to work hard.
