The Yorktown (N.Y.) Huskers have broken into the Class of 2016 with their first sophomore college commitment.

It’s come from goaltender Liam Donnelly, who has verballed to the University of Hartford, a commitment that was first reported by Joe Lombardi on Saturday on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.

The 5-foot-8, 140-pound Donnelly, a lefty, is a strong communicator who plays with an aggressive style. He performed well at the Maverik Showtime National Recruiting Spotlight as well as the Moonlight and MVP showcases.

recruiting_updateNow, here’s a Q&A with Liam on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
Academics were a major factor, also the location of the school in relation to Yorktown.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?

Lehigh, St Joesph’s and Loyola.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My strengths are communication with the defense and I would describe my style of play as an aggressive approach to playing goalie.

What area of your game do you need to work on?
All aspects of my game need work, but I would like to focus on my positioning and being more patient on clears.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
I was introduced to lacrosse when my dad brought me to a Yorktown game and I knew it was right for me. I also play on the Yorktown hockey team.

What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I played for No Limit Ballers and Prime Time and attended the Moonlight Showcase, MVP and Maverick Showtime.

Any final thoughts?
I would like to thank my friends, family, and coaches for making this all possible. Also I would like to thank the Hartford coaching staff for this opportunity.
