aviles

Riley Aviles has a big game today.

Aviles is a wide receiver/safety on the Iona Prep football football team, which hosts Xavier at 1:30 p.m.

Aviles is also a standout in lacrosse. He was named first-team all-league and Attackman of the Year for the CHSAA Metro Division this past spring.

Lacrosse is also the sport he’ll be playing in college. He’ll be doing it at Franklin & Marshall. Aviles’ verbal to the Diplomats was first reported by Joe Lombardi earlier this week on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider expanded coverage section.

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound Aviles possesses quickness, good hands and field vision.

“My style of play can be characterized by forcing the issue, and creating plays,” he said.

Aviles suffered a broken wrist and was unable to attend the Brine National tournament as part of the Long Island South team this summer.

recruiting_updateNow, here’s a Q&A with Riley on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
The academic reputation of Franklin & Marshall, as well as its highly competitive schedule.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
Lafayette, Villanova, Haverford, Nazareth, and Kenyon.
What area of your game do you need to work on?
I am always striving to increase my lacrosse IQ.
How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
I was introduced to lacrosse by friends around me who played lacrosse, and I also play football.
What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I played for Red Water and attended Jake Reid Nike Blue Chip, National Invitational 175 and numerous prospect camps.
Any final thoughts?
I wanted to thank my parents for giving me the opportunity to go to Iona Prep and pursue my aspirations to play in college. I also want to thank my high school coach Rick Trizano for developing my game and talking to college coaches on my behalf.
