Dylan Harned has the speed to get up and down the field and the skills to play both ways.

When he gets to his spot, he also has the size to make an impact.

If the Class of 2014 standout for Middle Country (N.Y.) sounds like he has the ingredients of a college player, it’s because he does.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound midfielder verballed to Division II power LIU Post earlier this week, a commitment first reported when it was made by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider special coverage section.

In addition to his two-way ability, Harned, a righty, is also a force offensively as an effective dodger who can break down defenses and get to the cage.

Harned will be the latest member of his extended family to play at the collegiate level. His cousins, Corey and Chris Harned, both played lacrosse at John Hopkins.

recruiting_updateNow, here’s a Q&A with Dylan on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
I wanted to be able to get a good education, while also playing and competing at a high level of lacrosse. I also wanted to be able to dorm at a school, while still being close to home.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I had visited Providence College, Stony Brook University, Salisbury, Cortland and Dowling College.

What area of your game do you need to work on?
I think the area of my game that I need to work on the most is developing a more consistent and stronger weak-handed shot.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
I was introduced to lacrosse by my cousins Corey and Chris Harned, who both played lacrosse at John Hopkins and my dad in the second grade. I also play football for my high school team (Newfield High School) and was a part of the 2011 Long Island Championship team. I also played basketball for the team through my sophomore year.

What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I play on Team Middle Country and we participated in the LI Lax Fest, Rutgers Shootout, LI Lacrosse Classic and Tri-State. I also participated in Blue Chip 225.

Any final thoughts?
I would like to thank my coaches Mike Massari and Ken Budd for guiding me through the recruiting process and helping me become the player I am today and my mom and dad for supporting me with everything I chose to do.
