tiernanTJ Tiernan is an impact player whether he or his team have possession of the ball or not.

“I would describe myself as a two-way player who works equally as hard offensively as I do defensively,” said the Class of 2015 midfielder at Elwood-John Glenn High School (N.Y.).

Tiernan’s hard work is paying off.  He made the all-star team at the Maverik Showtime National Lacrosse Recruiting Spotlight in July. He also played for Team Long Island at the Brine National Lacrosse Classic.

Now that the summer showcases are complete, Tiernan has decided on his college destination, committing to Binghamton University, a verbal first reported when it was made on Aug. 6 by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider special coverage section.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound righty, who plays football and wrestles for Elwood-Glenn, is effective at shooting on the run from both the right and left side.

recruiting_updateNow, here’s a Q&A with TJ on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
The academic standards of Binghamton University as well as the direction the men’s lacrosse team is heading in. I’m looking forward to playing for (Binghamton Head) Coach (Scott) Nelson and his coaching staff.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
The other schools I met with were Towson, Lehigh, Providence and Marist.

What area of your game do you need to work on?
Continuing to strengthen my shot and work on different methods of dodging and feeding my teammates.

What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I play for Team 91. I have participated in the First Look Lacrosse Camp, Maverick Showtime, Philly Showcase, Brine National Tournament, Long Island Lax Fest and the NSCLA.

Any final thoughts?
I would like to thank team 91 for all they have done as well as my high school coach, Kevin Lavey, for his assistance during the process. Special thanks goes out to Jim Mule from Team 91 for guiding me in the right direction and for all of his support, he has played a major roll in my success over the years.

I would also like to thank George Breres and Brian Spallina from Team 91 for all of their support and help during this process.
