Marist College’s recruiting splash on Long Island added some ripples earlier this week when the Red Foxes picked up a verbal from one of Long Island’s top attackmen.

It came when Paul Dilena of Nassau County Class A champion Massapequa verballed to coach Keegan Wilkinson’s program, a commitment first reported when it was made by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s “Lacrosse Insider” section.

Marist now has five verbals from Long Island standouts — two from the Class of 2014 and three from 2015.

The latest Red Fox rising junior commit is a 6-foot-1, 220-pound righty dodger who uses his size to create scoring opportunities, often backing in toward the crease. Dilena is also a football standout for the Chiefs as a running back/linebacker. He started on the ‘Pequa varsity squad last fall as a sophomore middle linebacker.

recruiting_updateNow, here’s a Q&A with Paul on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
I loved the campus of the school and I can picture myself being there for four years.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I’m a dodger. I go to the net 75 percent of the time I get the ball.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
I’ve played lacrosse since I was in second grade but I always played football and basketball.

What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I played for the Long Island Express. We won the U-15 national championship last year in Florida and I also participated in Jake Reed Nike Blue Chip.
