Tom Mariano has been named the new head men’s lacrosse coach at Pace University in Pleasantville, N.Y.

Mariano comes to Pace, a Division II program, from the Ohio Machine of Major League Lacrosse where he was the assistant coach and defensive coordinator.

Mariano_Story“With his experience combined with the construction of our outdoor athletic facilities, we are confident that our men’s lacrosse program will be competitive in the Northeast-10 Conference for many years to come,” Pace University Director of Athletics Mark Brown said of Mariano, a 1989 graduate of Ossining High School.

Mariano’s college experience includes a 17-year stint as head coach at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn.

Mariano and his staff annually produced a team that was a strong influence in the community and also carried a 3.0 team GPA. He had a successful 2013 campaign as the NEC Coach of the Year as his team qualified for the 2013 NEC Playoffs. In total, Mariano has coached 70 all-conference players throughout his collegiate coaching career.

Mariano received his Master’s Degree in Teaching with a concentration in Elementary Education in 2000 from Sacred Heart University. He is a 1994 graduate of Nazareth College in Rochester with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Business Administration. While at Nazareth, he was a member of the 1992 NCAA Division III Men’s Lacrosse National Championship team.

    No reason Pace can’t be an impact lax program in the Northeast. This move should help get them there.

    Job 1 for Mariano is to bring in 1-3 Yorktown players a year to Pace, located about 10 miles south of Town.
