Last week, we told you about an attackman from Las Vegas, Grant Gravitt, who verballed to the University of Denver.

Today, we head south to Florida, where one of the Sunshine State’s top defenders has made his college choice.

Alex “AJ” Ferraro of Parkland, Fla., a rising junior, has verbally committed to Navy.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Ferraro is a physical and aggressive player who excels in transition, as shown in his highlight reel.

Now, here’s a Q&A with AJ on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
I really enjoyed my tour of the Naval Academy and got a very positive feeling on the direction the lacrosse program is going and I sensed a strong commitment that they will continue to build the program.

Also, I aspire to ultimately become a Naval Officer as well as serve my country in a meaningful capacity.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I considered Notre Dame, the University of Michigan and Hofstra University. I visited Michigan and Hofstra.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
Tenacious one-on-one defender, excellent stick skills and very good in push transition game.

What coach had biggest impact on your development as a player?
Coach Jeff Goldberg from Team Florida. I attribute my aggressive style of defense and ability to effectively double team to being coached by him throughout the years.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
I started playing lacrosse at 8 years old through my hometown recreation league. I’ve played tackle football and baseball through the years and recently decided to dedicate myself solely to lacrosse.

What travel team did you play on last summer and what showcase events did you participate in?
Team Florida is my travel team. I attended Jake Reed Nike Blue Chip, Battle of the Hotbeds, Diamond Warrior Showcase and Duke 120.
