It’s judgment day in high school lacrosse.

LL_Game-Day-CROPPED16State titles will be awarded in New York and Connecticut and the Tournament of Champions will be decided in New Jersey.

So let’s get right to it.

The New York boys title tripleheader at Growney Stadium on the campus of St. John Fisher College in Rochester features three marquee matchups.

Garden City, the only defending state champion to make it back to the finals, will battle Jamesville-Dewitt for the Class B crown in Game 1 at 11 a.m.

GC (18-3), which defeated the nation’s No. 2-ranked team, previously unbeaten Niskayuna 10-9 in the semifinals, is looking for its sixth state title. Jamesville-Dewitt has won three state titles, including back-to-back championships in 2010 and ’11 when it beat Garden City each year in the finals.

Bronxville looks to become the third team from Section 1 (Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Dutchess counties) to win a state crown when it battles Cazenovia for the Class C crown at 1:30 p.m. Bronxville (22-1) has won 18 straight, including a 13-12 overtime triumph against defending Class C state champion Shoreham-Wading River in the semis. Cazenovia won the state title in 2011, in its first and only state final appearance.

Traditional powers West Genesee (15-5) and Ward Melville (21-0) meet for the sixth time in the state final in the nightcap of the tripleheader — the Class A title game — at 4 p.m. WM is looking to even it at 3-3.

The last time Ward Melville and West Genny met in the state title game was 1999 – a 13-12 double overtime win for Ward Melville. That was their third straight final meeting, with West Genny winning in triple OT 9-8 in 1998 and Ward Melville 8-7 in double OT in 1997.

New York’s girls championship tripleheader at SUNY Cortland starts at 9:30 a.m. as Farmingdale (Section 8) faces Baldwinsville (Section 3) in Class A. Brighton (Section 5) plays Christian Brothers Academy of Syracuse (Section 3) for the Class B crown at noon. The Class C final is at 2:30 p.m. as Mount Sinai (Section 11) plays Skaneateles (Section 3).

Connecticut will be holding its boys and girls state title games at Brien McMahon and Bunnell high schools, respectively.

The boys lineup at McMahon features Joel Barlow (20-1) vs. Wilton (20-9) in the medium-school division (Class M) at 11 a.m., followed by Staples (16-4) vs. Fairfield Prep (17-4) in the large-school division (Class L) at 1:30 p.m. and Weston (13-9) vs. St. Joseph  (12-8) in the small-school division (Class S) at 6 p.m. You can watch all three Connecticut state finals live on MSGVarsity.com.

Fairfield Prep has been to the state finals eight straight years, winning five of the last seven years, including four straight from 2006-09. This will be Staples’ second-ever title-game appearance, with the first coming in 1999 when it lost to South Windsor 11-8.

Wilton, the No. 17 seed, had to win an outbracket game just to make the tournament. The Warriors, who are looking for their third state title in the last three years, then defeated No. 1 Avon 15-9, defending Class M state champion Darien 7-6 and New Fairfield 10-3. Since the CIAC changed to a three-division format in 2006, Weston and St. Joseph have each won two titles.

The premiere airing of the Barlow-Wilton game will be on Wednesday, June 12 at 7:30 p.m. on MSG Varsity Channel 14 (Optimum). The premiere airing of the Staples-Fairfield Prep game will be on Tuesday, June 11 at 9 p.m.  The premiere airing of the St. Joseph-Weston game will be on Wednesday, June 12 at 10 p.m.

The CT girls title tripleheader at Bunnell High School starts at 11 a.m. as  Weston meets Haddam-Killingworth. Greenwich and Darien then meet for at 1 p.m. in Class L and New Canaan meets Wilton 3 p.m. in Class M.

Second-seeded Don Bosco Prep (18-2) takes a 12-game win streak into today’s New Jersey Tournament of Champions title game against No. 1 Ridge (19-3), which has won 11 straight. Action gets under way at 5 p.m. at Kean University in Union.

Unbeaten Moorestown (24-0) takes on Shawnee (19-2) for the T of C girls title in the second game of the doubleheader at Kean at 7 p.m.

Just some quick information on Cazenovia Central. They boast arguably the best attackman in upstate NY, Connor Cannizzaro. He has 85 goals and 37 assists. They also have another 100-point scorer in Ryan Cook, who has 78 goals and 28 assists. This is an extremely high-powered offensive team that is not deep but can and will run away from opponents if given the opportunity. Caz also employs a 3-3 zone defensively that it runs almost exclusively.
