Before we get to today’s array of title games, we have a weather-related development.

LL_Game-Day-CROPPED16The stormy conditions have resulted in the postponement of today’s scheduled Section 1 vs. Section 2 tripleheader at the University at Albany till tomorrow. The times for the games remain the same: Niskayuna vs. Yorktown (Class B) 3:30; Bronxville vs. Glens Falls (6 p.m.) and Shenendehowa vs. Mamaroneck (8 p.m.)

Defending New York Class C champion Shoreham-Wading River is the first Suffolk champion to clinch a spot in the Long Island Championships on Saturday, June 1 at Hofstra University. SWR beat Bayport-Blue Point 18-6 to win the Section 11 title.

Today,  No. 1-seeded and unbeaten Ward Melville and No. 2 Smithtown West will battle it out at Stony Brook University at 7:30 p.m. for the Suffolk Class A crown. The winner faces Massapequa in the LIC on June 1.

That game will be preceded by the 5 p.m. Class B title game between No. 2 Huntington and No. 5 Miller Place.

A full slate of New Jersey Group championship games, is highlighted by a 5 p.m. encounter between red-hot Don Bosco Prep and fourth-seeded Seton Hall Prep, which upset previously unbeaten Delbarton in the group semis. Connecticut state tournament opening-round games are also today. Of note, 2012 Class L finalists Fairfield Prep and Ridgefield are on the same side of the bracket this season, meaning they can’t play again in the final. Greenwich, Simsbury and Staples led the other side of the Class L bracket.

Amity visits Fairfield Prep, Ridgefield hosts Cheshire, Staples hosts Conard and Newtown plays at Greenwich today.

Nassau County crowned its boys champions yesterday, with Massapequa (Class A), Garden City (Class B) and Friends Academy (Class C) advancing to the LIC. Today, Section 8 will hold its girls title games in a tripleheader at Adelphi University.

It starts with Massapequa facing Farmingdale at 3:30 p.m. (Class A), Manhasset playing Garden City at 6 p.m. (Class B) and North Shore facing Cold Spring Harbor at 8:30 p.m. (Class C). All three games will be shown live on MSGVarsity.com.
