The postponement of yesterday’s Section 1 boys and girls finals to today has made what would have already been a big day even bigger.

Boys and girls finals will also be awarded in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference in a doubleheader at Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk, Conn.

Fordham Prep and Iona Prep, who have played three straight one-goal games (all won by Iona), will meet in the CHSAA New York City/Westchester AA title game at 7:30 p.m. at Manhattan College’s Gaelic Park.

And then there are the semifinals in one of the country’s most competitive leagues, Suffolk County Class A.

LL_Game-Day-CROPPED16So let’s get to it.

Today’s Section 1 (Westchester, Putnam, Rockland and Dutchess counties) boys field features a pair of first-time sectional finalists in North Rockland (Class A) and Pleasantville (Class C).

Mamaroneck (Class A), which won its first-ever sectional title last year, is looking to make it two in a row.

Yorktown (Class B) is looking to take a sectional title for the 31st time in the last 34 years. The Huskers, who  will be going for the 36th sectional title overall, will be meeting rival John Jay in the final for the third straight year.

All three games will be shown live on

You can check out the complete schedule of Section 1 boys and girls title games here.

You can watch the Yorktown-John Jay premiere taped telecast on MSG Varsity Channel 14 (Optimum) on Tuesday, May 28 at 4 p.m. The Mamaroneck-North Rockland game will premiere on Thursday, May 30 at 4 p.m. The Bronxville-Pleasantville final will premiere on Sunday, June 2 at 11:30 a.m.

New Canaan looks to win a second straight FCIAC boys title when the second-seeded Rams taken on No. 4 Greenwich at 7 p.m. You can watch that game, as well as the 4 p.m. girls final between No. 1 Darien and No. 2 New Canaan, live on  For a rundown of FCIAC semifinal scores and today’s matchups, click here.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a pair of sectional or conference semifinal matchups as power packed as the ones in Suffolk County Class A today.

No. 4 seed Smithtown East (14-3), which just ended West Islip’s run of nine straight county crowns,  faces unbeaten and top-seeded host Ward Melville at 4:30 p.m. Smithtown West hosts Northport at 5 p.m. in the other semi. You can watch both games live on

The winners of today’s games play in the Section 11 Class A title game on Wednesday, May 29 at 7:30 p.m. at Stony Brook University.

Chaminade completed a sweep of St. Anthony’s to win the CHSAA Nassau/Suffolk Class AAA title yesterday. St. John the Baptist downed Kellenberg to win the CHSAA Nassau/Suffolk Class AA crown.

Today, Fordham Prep and Iona Prep will square off for the CHSAA New York City/Westchester Class AA championship at 7:30 p.m. at Manhattan College’s Gaelic Park live on

That game follows the CHSAA NYC/Westchester A title game between Archbishop Stepinac and Monsignor Farrell in the first game of the doubleheader.

    Brewster game – 19-2
    John Jay game – 17-3

    Somers Game – 12-8

    Yorktown is That Good.
And maybe now Somers folks will give Coach Lou and Dalton a little credit!!! Instead of trying to push them out!!!

    • Old Rugger says:

Yorktown is that good this year. First time in a while they have a legit chance at a state championship. Funny so does Ward Melville kinda like a throw back year.

  24. Indian J says:

Not all Schurrs fault. There is a short fall of talent on the horizon at Jay that started to show itself this season. Sav leaving, and the leadership at the youth league level changing the landscape- are going to make probably the next fours years at JJ troublesome. You’ll see more of a mid range class B team for a little while.

That being said, today’s loss was embarrassment and proof that things up and down have not remained as that of an elite program .

  25. says:

Ward Melville has jumped out to a 4-1 first-quarter lead against Smithown East.

  26. The Burg says:

Have to agree with Be there. Lots of talk of people wanting a change in Somers. Folks better recognize what they have. No Disrespect, but if you look at the talent . Then especially with the injuries on defense.. Factor in there strength of schedule. Not only should these guys stay, But should probably be coach of the year in B.

  27. Vin says:

Woah, Rob Doerr coach of the year

  28. says:

Pleasantville has jumped out to a 3-0 lead over Bronxville 4:40 in the Section 1 Class C final. Timeout Bronxville.

    • says:

Pleasantville leads Bronxville 4-3 after one. Two goals by Brendan Halloran (Pleasantville) and Jack Grass (Bronxville).

      • says:

Halftime: Bronxville 6, Pleasantville 5. Henry Grass has one goal and three assists. Jack Grass has three goals.

        • says:

The Hopkins-bound brother duo of Jack and Henry Grass have a combined seven goals and four assists and Bronxville leads 11-7 after three.

          • says:

Final: Bronxville 15, Pleasantville 9. Broncos win their third straight sectional title.

  29. says:

Northport, Smithtown West tied 5-5 at the half

    • says:
