Ethan Frieder’s college decision went beyond finding the right place to continue his lacrosse career.

The junior at Horace Greeley High School (N.Y.) was looking for the college that best combined academics with athletics.

Frieder found it in Brown University, a commitment first reported at Twitter.com/joe_lombardi.

A 5-foot-10, 180-pound two-way midfielder, Frieder is an excellent feeder with good field vision.

recruiting_updateNow, here’s a Q&A with Ethan on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
I made three visits to Brown before I committed, spending time with the coaching staff and the team convinced me that Brown was the right choice for me.

Choosing a school that had a good balance of academics and athletics was very important to me. In that sense, I thought the Brown was the best fit for me. Also, the fact that it’s in a city and its proximity to home were big factors in my decision.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I also considered Harvard, Penn, Colgate, Yale and Dartmouth. I visited Harvard, Penn, Colgate and Yale.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
Being a two-way midfielder who can be effective between the lines. I also see the field well and can feed and make the right pass.

What area of your game do you need to work on?
I think I could work on shooting from the outside. Also, this offseason I plan to work on my strength and conditioning.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
I first started playing lacrosse in first grade at Soundview Sports Camp in the summer. I also play basketball but missed last season with an injury.

What travel team did you play on last summer and what showcase events did you participate in?
I play for the Westchester Predators in the summer. I attended National Invite 175 and Maverik Showtime where I was an all-star.
