It’s a stacked Saturday of wall-to-wall varsity action today in the nation’s No. 1 hotbed for lacrosse, the New York/New Jersey/Connecticut tristate region.

LL_Game-Day-CROPPED16Defending New York Class B state champion Garden City takes a 6-1 record into a 1 p.m. showdown at unbeaten Ward Melville (8-0). You can watch the game live on MSG Varsity Channel 14 (Optimum) and MSGVarsity.com/live-schedule.

Bishop Guertin (N.H.), meanwhile, plays at Huntington (N.Y.).

The focus of the Garden State will be on the renewal of the Mountain Lakes/Delbarton rivalry. This year it also happens to be a battle of unbeatens as Mountain Lakes (5-0) visits Delbarton (6-0) at 11 a.m.

Also in New Jersey, Don Bosco Prep plays at Ridgewood at 1 p.m. (you can watch it live on MSGVarsity.com/live-schedule) and Chatham hosts Summit.

In a big Suffolk County clash on Long Island, Northport plays Smithtown West at 4 p.m. at Veterans Park in Northport for the Louis J. Acompora Cup.

There are a couple of big prep showdowns of note, highlighted by a 3 p.m. game between host Westminster School (Conn.) and Trinity-Pawling. Also of note, Deerfield (Mass.) plays at Taft School (Conn.). In a New York Ivy League encounter, Hackley hosts Horace Mann at 12:30 p.m.

Thought very strong dominant game by Town in all respects. Mariano had a feast–incredible velocity on shots and shut down of Darien’ top scorer couple high-lights for me

  15. slacrosse says:

    Rye 11-3 over Byram Hills

    • BH says:

actually the score was 11-5 with rye scoring an empty netter as time expired. Not a particularly good outing for either team. BH controlled FO for the most part but would turn it over not long after the FO win. Hopefully the next time they play BH has all their injured players back.

      • slacrosse says:

        Sorry bout getting wrong score.

Wasn’t going to comment on the game but since you did, here’s my take.

Actually Rye did play pretty well (not its best game). They dominatied the game for the 1st 3.5 quarters leading 10-2 halfway thru the 4th Q. There were not many SOG by BH up to that point but I think I remember Rye’ s goalie having to make a point blank save. Rye was substituting freely particularly during the second half inc a new goalie. With about 6 or so minutes left in Q4 Rye got sloppy and credit to BH who scored 3 goals in about 3 or so minutes. Believe BH had a FO ad of about 60/40.

Yeah I hope all BH players are back ASAP and I’m sure you wish the same for Rye’s attack kid who scored I believe the 1st 4 goals of the game and went out injured with about 6 minutes to go.

    Somers score?

  24. LaxLessons.com says:

John Jay leads Manhasset 3-2 at the half.

  25. Fan says:

    Bronxville 20-7 over somers!

    • slacrose says:

Congrats to Bville. Needless to say I’m totally shocked at this score particularly the way Somers has been playing.

Assume Bville got off the bus totally psyched and under huge pressure to make a clear statement on the field making up for the drubbing they took from Town. Town was just as psyched to “put Bville in their place” at Murphy Field.

  26. Indian J says:

Who’s scored for Jay ? What happened over there with Bville vs. Somers ? That’s surprising.

  27. Big Easy says:

I cannot understand how Somers beats Jay and then gives up 20 to Bronxvillle….

Yorktown is clearly is all alone in Section 1…like the old days….

  28. AALAX says:

    JJ SCORE?

  29. LaxLessons.com says:

Final: John Jay 8, Manhasset 4. Shawn Smith and Frazier Bostwick each with two goals. Zone D stifled Set.

John Jay led 5-3 after three with five different goal scorers at that point and JJ led 3-2 at the half.

  30. sec1 says:

    JJ 8 MH 4 Final

  31. sec1 says:

So lets try and figure this out?
    Somers beats JJ
    JJ beats MH
Bronxville blows Somers off the Field? Lol
    LP lose to PV
    LP beats FP? What?

    • slacrose says:

      Just thinking along those lines!

    • BH says:

Sec1,trying to figure out the results & reasons for the outcomes is a fruitless endeavor. The one thing that is easy to figure out is that Jack Lambert is the best player in Section 1-hands down. No discussion.

Watched him again tonight took most of the face-offs tonight at least going 50/50, ran the field/dodged, defended and passed the ball like he had a short stick. He’s a pleasure to watch.

      • Indian J says:

I watched the replay on msg varsity. That one goal vs. Manhasset off his own draw was intimidating for sure. Border line evil. Carolina will use him right away.

  32. Laxipotimus says:

Good wins for WM and JJ today not to mention Stapes!

  33. Jaybird says:

Nice win fellas! Looks who’s back!!

  34. hummm says:

Jack is a good player but not the best in section ,he is best at what he does hands down. There are allot of players that are fun to watch.

    • South of 287 says:

Would be easier to compare players at each respective position and say, player X is the best close D or Attack or Middie rather than a sweeping statement. That being said, Lambert is the best player on one of the best teams in the Section

    • agree says:

hummm, having watched Jack since he was in 7th grade when he was using a shortstick and playing midfield to where he is today and having watched all of his contemporaries (2013) either through a high school game or. Travel summer tournament i would completely agree with BH. I’m pretty confident all of his fellow 2013 section 1 players would agree if they were honest.

  35. WestLax says:

    Power Rankings Section 1
    1. Yorktown no doubt
    2. Bronxville – Mamo Wednesday
    3. John Jay – big win vs. Sett
    4. Arlington – Just keep winning
    5. Somers – after Bxville Jay win not as big
    6. Mamaroneck – will be tested at home against Bxville
    7. Rye – manhandled Byram, do not sleep on Harrison Tuesday
    8. Mahopac – Yorktown Thursday
    9. Lakeland/Panas – nice win over Fordham Prep, Jay then Bxville tough
    10. Tie: Brewster, Fox Lane, North Rockland and Harrison

    • Dj says:

Mamo at 6 is a stretch. Their schedule so far does not justify it nor does their record. They have not played 1 top 10 ranked team & still have 2 losses.
Mamo (& Arlington) ahead of undefeated Rye is hard to understand.
      Fox Lane & Harrison????????

      • South of 287 says:

Agree Mamo should not be in front of Mahopac (who they lost to at home) . Play Bville at home so that is a bench mark game which should test their D.

Rye has played nobody, really absolutely nobody, so far. Beat Fox in OT, Mamo beat Fox by 3. They only play 5 top teams (L/P, Somers, Jay, Iona Prep, New Canaan) this season, so their season record will look good, but may not have ‘seasoning’ to compete in the playoffs.

All this should come out in the wash over the next 2 weeks so let’s not get too excited.

        • Dj says:

Agree overall on Rye’s schedule except they have easily beat 2 top-10’s in BH & Pleasantville. Apply same reasoning to Mamo & they aren’t even in this discussion & Arlington falls out as they have lost 2 of 2 against top-10’s.

          • slacrosse says:

Mamo-Did play a pretty decent Wantaugh in 1st game (5-10). Guessing Wantaugh prob falls within top 10 in Section 1. Also feel Mamo has some really top Section 1 players like Conley,Brill (goalie), Greenberg as well as other solid players. They missed a point blank shot to tie for OT so not giving the loss too much weight. Schedule a bit improved, but shame this team wasn’t able to really upgrade it like Bville did. Bville game HUGE chance to make a statement. Game at Bville.

Rye-Yeah despite W/L record, gotta hold them until they play the likes of Somers, Jay, IP and New Canaan. Fact that these games coming closer to end of season should be good for Rye in play-offs.

#4 thru 8 should be lumped together

Gotta have Byran Hills (beat Fox) among group 10

    • ???? says:

Westlax, you lose credibility every week with your top ten. Why, because the first 3 are no brainers, it the bottom 3-4 where you lose it. Arlingon really?.? They barely beat Harrison. Mamaroneck will get smoked by Bronxville, Rye should be above Mamo and Arlington. I get Lakeland somewhat maybe you are building in their prospects down the road bc they are playing a tough schedule. But they are still shaky. Your #10 is crazy. Brewster should be in the top 6 or 7. There should be no mention of of Harrison, Fox Lane or North Rockland they’ve all lost to Byram Hills.

      • What says:

??????, What, Arlington lost To Jay by 2(down by 1 mid 4th) and Blew a 5-2 against Somers in 3rd and lost by 1. Beat Pac who everyone loved 1.5 weeks ago and LP who’s schedule will make them so much better in late may then they are now and nobody will want to play. So, you are basing Arlington on a subpar performance against Harrison. Harrison played well and has some players. If all teams played well every game there would be a lot of undefeated teams. That is why you play the games. Arlington has not played 1 complete game yet this entire year. This year Town is on a level of its own and despite the drubbing I think Bronxville is not far behind. There are 10-15 teams that can all beat each other on any given day. That is what is great about lax. Don’t be a score comparer. You can’t do it in lax.

        • Dj says:

B’ville is definitely far behind Town. That was made very clear.

          • fan says:

by that what you are saying then Somers is way behind Bronxville. So i guess that means somers is extremly far behind town and JJ even futher behind and then mahopac and alrington in another state and with PV beating L/P that means L/P is gotta be one of the worst teams in section 1. Town is the best in the section that is fact. But you cant take 1 game and evaluate a certain teams level. it comes over a season.

  36. slacrosse says:

Hey take it a bit easier on Westlax. He’s not putting himself out as a rankings guru. It’s his opinion and anyone can come on here and give their rankings which very few people do..

    • Dj says:

Nothing wrong with respectful disagreement/criticism, wouldn’t be a forum without it. If he or anyone posts their top 10 then they’re opening it up for discussion. WestLax is actually making the forum more interesting…..thanks Westlax.

      • slacrosse says:

Agree of course but IMO reference to Westlax “losing credibility” was just a bit over the top.

        • WestLax says:

I try not comment but this is a good forum. Lets all agree Yorktown is the top team in section 1??? from there it is difficult. I look at all schedules both in section and out. Lets take Somers out of section 1 St. Anthony’s loss, New Canaan loss and Iona Prep loss. What does that mean?? well strength of schedule of course. Take Rye’s schedule they have no one like that so far. So for that Somers is above Rye for now that can change. I know Mamo lost to Arlington and it was close, I believe in a playoff game Mamo would be a favorite. Maybe I was a bit aggressive putting Fox Lane and Harrison tied for 10th. Like Slacrosse said 3-10 could be any order. What makes me put in order is quality of players on roster. John Jay one word “Lambert” he gives them credibility to rise to top even though they lost a tough one to Somers (they will meet again). I like Mahopac because they have a stud at LSM and he can make a difference. DJ, ???? and fan I appreciate comments and the list will continue come out every Sunday and I will continue to use my formula.
