A 6 p.m. contest between Section 1 (N.Y.) Class B contenders John Jay-Cross River and host Somers highlights today’s slate.

John Jay is coming off a big 10-6 win over 2011 Connecticut Class M state champion Wilton while Somers defeated Arlington in its last game, 6-5, scoring four straight goals to pull out the victory. Arlington (5-2), meanwhile, looks to bounce back from the Somers setback when it hosts Harrison at 5:15 p.m.

Also in Section 1, Putnam County rivals Mahopac and Brewster battle it out in a 4:30 p.m. game at Brewster. Also at 4:30 p.m., Putnam Valley hosts Lakeland/Panas.

There’s a full slate of action in Connecticut. Defending Class M state champion Darien, in the midst of an uncharacteristic two-game losing streak, hosts St. Joseph’s-Trumbull in a 10 a.m. game at DHS Stadium. Greenwich visits Norwalk at 1 p.m. at Testa Field. Wilton plays at Westhill at 5:30 p.m.

LL_Game-Day-CROPPED16The Long Island slate is highlighted by a 7 p.m. game between Sayville and host Comsewogue. Also at 7 p.m., defending New York Class C state champion Shoreham-Wading River visits Eastport/South Manor. Huntington hosts Rocky Point in a 4:30 p.m. game at Breezy Park.

Upstate New York action is highlighted by a game between Irondequoit and Webster Thomas.

The New Jersey slate includes several 7 p.m. contests, including Kinnelon hosting Ramapo.

Jay vs. Somers – Somers will be fired up to beat what they view as a vulnerable Jay team. Coach Lew and Dalton will have a very rigid plan on what they think will work against Jay. But, Jay has been a different team in virtually every game they have played this year. They have been steadily improving since their Brewster game and just beat Wilton. It’s John Jay’s game if they really want it.

    Jay 12 Somers 6

    • Bear says:

Pac beats Brewster 6-5. It was a great game on both sides. Just what you would expect from two blue collar-like teams. Pac went up 2-0. Brewster gets 4 unanswered goals. Pac ties it up and goes ahead 6-4. Brewster gets man-up goal to close gap to 6-5. Then has a great chance to win it with under 1 minutes with a feed from behind to a cutting middie. Goalie for Pac came up big twice in the last minute.

    Somers wins!!

  35. slacrosse says:

Class A a real dog fight between Pac, Arlington and Mamo and maybe LP will bounce back during the playoffs.

  36. Hop says:

Hey guys great game. Guy Fieri beat Tim the toolman Schurr! Well played some turnovers cost both teams in crucial moments. Lambert is a beast all over the field. Somers gets well balanced offense they will be a team to reckon with. Somers goalie is real good?? JJ fans stop whining about being short handed. Bad news about Beck is true. However Somers is also missing key players in Cambell, Chiriboga and Mendoza. All starters.

  37. LaxLessons.com says:

    Somers 9, John Jay 8

    John Jay:

    Shawn Smith – 2 Goals
    Frazier Bostwick – 4 goals 2 Assists
    Jack Lambert – 1 Goal 1 Assist
    Andrew Duffy – 1 Goal

    Saves:

    Rob Looney – 8 Saves

    Somers :

    Justin Corpolongo – 1 Goal
    Tyler DeVito – 1 Goal
    Alex Corpolongo – 1 Goal 3 Assists
    Tim Cousin – 3 Goals
    Chris Marasco – 3 Goals 1 Assist

    Saves:

    Nik Genualdo – 14 Saves

    • Indian J says:

I don’t see anyone whining about Beck not being out there, asking is not whining. And yes, his absence was significant to the outcome of the game. Is there any time table as to when he may return ? Great win for Somers, they’ve been winning the regular season contest a lot lately. The sectionals has been different though. Will this be the year they can win both ?

Also, a job well done by Bostwick with 5 and 2.

    • old rugger says:

If these teams play like they did yesterday Town will beat them big time. Somers with 4 goals in last 3.5 minutes of first quater put JJ in big hole. Somers 3 3 zone very susceptable to feeding the crease (Bostwick 5 goals) Congrats to Somers they won the ground ball war and the game. JJ gave up 3 wrap around goals just like in the columbine game, disapointing.

  38. JJ says:

Lambert didn’t score, Bostwick had 5 not 4.

  39. Lax Observer says:

With Beck, JJ wins by 4-5 goals, but still good job by Somers to get the W.

  40. Rugger is to old says:

Yes they were a a few turnovers on each team, that were costly. And vs teams like Yorktown, Manhasset, St Anthonys, Ridgefield etc they can really change the outcome. However They’re were only two goals on the inside that were not Extra Man or in Transition. Against the zone it was a different story. JJ scored 8 total – 3 xtra man, 3 in transition and 1 on a turnover right in front of the net.

JJ and lax observer I agree we did not hear whining, however if your gonna say Beck would have made that big of a difference. Then you have to say also it would have been different with Somers Mendoza, Campbell and Chiriboga in the lineup. Injuries stink for any team especially to guys like that who all worked so hard to get on the field, but unfortunately they are part of the game. ANd unfortunately NONE of those guys will be able to return this year.

    • Indian J says:

I don’t think anyone is trying to nullify the victory. Good numbers on the goal breakdown. I don’t know if I’d give Jay with Beck having played an additional 4-5 goals, but 2-3 would be fair. I don’t know enough about Mendoza, Campbell, and Chiriboga but I’m sure they’re pretty good. In any event, Jay had a let down, at least in the first quarter, and Somers was fired up. We’ll have to see how the rest of it all plays out. Is it fact that that all the above mentioned players, for both Somers and Jay, are out for the season ?
