Last week at this time, we told you about a sophomore commitment from upstate New York power Nisakyuna with Bri Sacks’ decision to attend UMass.

Sacks is not the only Silver Warriors 10th-grader bound for the Division I ranks.

Anna Picardi, a center/mid, has given a verbal commitment to Colgate University.

Picardi has four goals and three assists already this season. (Sacks has a team-leading five goals.)

Picardi has a combination of speed and stick skills.

recruiting_updateNow, here’s a Q&A with Anna on her commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
When making my decision there was a lot of things to consider. I wanted to go to a school with great coaches, a nice team and a strong academic environment.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
In my recruiting process, I visited a lot of schools, and I think that helped solidify my decision. I visited Boston University, Cornell, Princeton and Colgate. Based on each school’s recruiting timeline, the decision came down to Colgate or Cornell. Colgate was the best fit for me.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My speed, good ball control and being able to control the ball in my stick at all different levels. To get by other players, I love to use quick stutter step fakes and a change in speed.

What area of your game do you need to work on?
I would like to improve my drive to the goal with weak hand up.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
My dad’s cousin, Kathy Taylor (coach at Cortland State), introduced lacrosse to me at a summer camp.

Also, my older brother, Justin Picardi, played lacrosse for Niskayuna and worked with me in our backyard.  He now plays for Holy Cross.  I have also always played soccer.

What travel team did you play on last summer and what showcase events did you participate in?
This past summer, I played for Metro Magic 2015 Blue team. This requires me to travel two to three hours every other Sunday to attend practices in New Jersey or southern New York.

Besides team tournaments, I attended Boston University lacrosse camp, Northstar Invitational, UNC Elite recruiting camp and All Nations Showcase in January.

Good job – let’s give the ladies more exposure – and some focus on Section standouts would be nice! Thanks.
