Yorktown is the consensus No. 1 team in Section 1.

YMTCCan another two-time New York state semifinalist claim that distinction.

That could be the case if Bronxville comes away with a win on Saturday, April 13 on the new turf field at Yorktown’s Charlie Murphy Field.

Our latest poll question asks who you think will win the 7 p.m. game.

  1. lax says:

You have to think the Broncos will still be a least moderately intimidated by Yorktown. Their win over Bridgewater is impressive and a confidence booster but Yorktown is a team that they recognize and know and have scrimmaged against. A lot of their players have overlapped in summer teams and camps and they know exactly how good the team they’re playing is. Murphy field under the lights will be interesting, especially considering how Ytown’s fans come out.

  2. BH says:

rooting for the Broncos in this one. Will even get off the couch this Saturday night and head to Yorktown. Should be good regardless who wins

  3. slacrosse says:

Yeah it’s just a game but the historical enormity of a possible “south of 287″ win by Bronxville (1st ever-Rye got close twice) over Town cannot be underestimated . Would imagine that Town is really motivated to put Bville in its place and will come out strong as heck.

I think Bville will be justifiably nervous facing Town at Murphy Field for the first time ever. But even ” moderately intimidated” may not apply.because I don’t think you can underestimate the nature of Bville’ s win over Bridgewater Raritan (assuming BR was as good or close to as good as last yr). Not only did Bville win but the fact that they held BR to 4 goals stood out to me. Shows they must have a very strong D ( we know that are strong on O).

Should be a great game and perhaps the most interesting match up in Section 1 in many years.

  4. Dj says:

Town will smoke Bronxville and everyone knows it.
Bronxville is overrated year after year. The majority of their seasons are spent playing against the weakest opponents in section 1. This season they’re finally playing some challenging teams like Town & JJ. They are a talented team but they ain’t Yorktown’s caliber.
Strength of schedule rank (average) 2005 – 2013: Yorktown 1, Bronxville 19. That says it all.

    • slacrosse says:

Yorktown would be favored tomorrow not because of their historical 8 yr advantage on SOS which everyone knows! They’re favored IMO because Town has a very strong team THIS yr and the game is at Murphy Field. I may be putting too much emphasis on the BR win but it does lead me to assume that Bville can play up to the same caliber as Town.

You mentioned that Bville is playing some talented teams like Town and J. True but you overlooked BR who Bville just beat and held to 4 goals–the 2011 and 2012 NJ state champions.

      • Dj says:

Currently BR is ranked 68th in NJ compared to Yorktown 11th in NY. Those numbers support Town handling Bronxville with relative ease. Town wins 13-5.

        • slacrosse says:

MUCH too early to look at Laxpower mathematical rankings which for example puts Mamo 9th behind North Rockland and Byram Hills–I don’t think so.

          • rlaxfamily says:

I’m going to have to go with Dj here. The numbers may not be saying much but they certainly are putting Yorktown ahead. The media is making this a far better game than what I predict it to be. Town by 7 goals tonight.

  5. WestLax says:

Hey Husker fans there will be a new sheriff in town(as in Yortown) tomorrow and they call them the Broncos. Bville14 Yorktown 10.

  6. T-P/F&M says:

Big Game for Broncos tomorrow, but in reality they have very Lil to lose. Town on the other hand has everything to lose. Town’s ranked #15 by quick/MSG & they’re playing at home.
Bville is loaded offensively & their D & goalie are playing well.
Hats off to them for getting these games. It will serve them well vs SWR most likely. If they play like they have in their 1st 3 games watch out.
I doubt town will take them lightly. Hope the class c power plays like a worthy opponent. Like a team that should be able to give SWR a game this yr.

  7. T-P/F&M says:

Town’s got everything to lose tomorrow(ranked #15 by Quick/MSG & playing at home)
Bville’s looked real good especially vs PV & B-R. They’re doing a great job getting ready for SWR(most likely) Win or lose, tomorrow’s game ratchets their program up a notch. Then they can watch Jack Near(ND) & Charlie McCormick(Gtown) on EspnU Sun. Morning

  8. South of 287 says:

Bville have some first line talent, but this not Ardsley or Scarsdale. Defense will be stretched – not sure how BR is this year, but think Bville his hold is tight for first half and then lose traction in 3rd with final Town by 3 or 4

  9. Sailors Fan says:

Yorktown will dominate the FO x and, with the extra possessions, win this game by 3 or 4.

  10. Just laxin says:

Many people believe yorktown should and will win. But i think the bigger picture is the growth of lacrosse to not just northern westchester. Its nice to see that south of 287 took home 2 of the 3 class section titles last year. I believe Bville is a very young program that is only a few years old and are taking strides every year. Last year Bville lost to L/P but beat mahopac and somers. Its nice to see more established teams willing to schedule them. Hopefully in the years to come Bville will become part of the elite programs in section 1. But you must give credit due when its deserved adn i do feel that Bville deserves some. I also wonder what the critics will think at the end of the season if Bville only loses to yorktown and beats JJ L/P mahopac and somers? Its also nice to see arlington doing well.
