When it comes to contending teams in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference, the names most often mentioned are the usual suspects: Darien, Ridgefield, Greenwich, New Canaan and Wilton.

But there have been signals that others teams should also be considered contenders, most notably the trio of Staples, Brien McMahon and Fairfield Ludlowe.

Fairfield Ludlowe opened the season by playing Darien to a 3-3 draw late in the first half before falling 7-4.

Today, we will get a good read as to where Staples stands in the mix.

The Wreckers, who are off to a 2-0 start and have outscored those opponents 33-2, play at Greenwich in a 5 p.m. game at Cardinal Stadium. You can watch the game live on MSGVarsity.com. The premiere telecast on MSG Varsity Channel 14 (Optimum) will be Saturday, April 13 at 9:30 p.m.

Also today among the 25 scheduled boys game in Connecticut, New Canaan hosts Norwalk at 6:30 p.m. and Darien visits Fairfield Warde at 4 p.m.

Another team, similar to Staples, looking to crack the conversation among contending teams in its conference is Smithtown East, which plays today at defending state champion West Islip at 4:30 p.m.

Also in Suffolk, Smithtown West visits Bay Shore at 5 p.m. You can watch the game live on MSGVarsity.com. Northport looks to improve to 6-0 when it plays at Sachem East at 4:30 p.m. That’s also when Ward Melville visits Sachem North.

In Nassau, Manhasset, coming off its huge win Saturday over Darien, which can be seen tonight at 9 p.m. on MSG Varsity Channel 14 (Optimum), hosts Bethpage at 5 p.m. Garden City plays host to Roslyn at 4:30 p.m.

There’s a full slate of action in New York’s Section 1, including Byram Hills hosting Pleasantville and Harrison visiting Horace Greeley at 4:30 p.m. and Rye playing at Fox Lane and Brewster hosting Lakeland/Panas at 5 p.m.

New Jersey action is highlighted by Chatham vs. host Delbarton at 4:30 p.m. and another 4:30 p.m. game between Seton Hall Prep and visiting Mendham.

The girls slate is highlighted by a 4:30 p.m. game between Manhasset and Wantagh. You can watch the game live on MSGVarsity.com.

  1. ShwamieSays says:

Game between Brewster and L/P should be interesting. L/P needs to get a win on the board and Brewster would love to establish themselves among the top dogs.

  2. slacrosse says:

Rye needs to keep the intensity and strong play they had vs LP going in the next 7 League games. Off they do they should be fine. In the past at times, it hasn’t been there when playing “so called” or “perceived” weaker teams and Rye has been burned.

  3. LaxLessons.com says:

Greenwich leads Staples 4-1 at the half. William Warsche has come up big in goal. Graham Savio has won all seven faceoffs.

Bay Shore holds a 4-2 lead over Smithtown West after one

Congrats to Rye on 6-5 win over Fox Lane. Heard winning goal at very end of game coming off key Rye FO win. Heard FL dominated FO giving them big advantage on possession most of game. Watch out for the Foxes in Class B.

  8. Old Rugger says:

Any color on the WI SE game? Great result for Smithtown East. I saw their offense at SWR this fall and they looks solid but didn’t think they would put up 13 against WI.
