There have been a handful of regular-season games already played since last Friday — all on Long Island.

Most notably, Sayville edged Connetquot 14-13 and Oceanside outlasted Hewlett 13-11 on Saturday in boys action and Locust Valley pulled away for a 17-4 victory against Bethpage in a girls game.

LL_Game-Day-CROPPED16This week, the regular season begins in earnest, highlighted by the traditional lid-lifter between Garden City and Syosset — the fifth straight year the LI powers have opened the season against one another. That game will be on Tuesday.

In Nassau County today, Mineola visits Glen Cove at 4:15 p.m. and Mepham hosts West Hempstead at 4:30 p.m.

Suffolk County features a pair of games as well: Bayport-Blue Point hosts Longwood at 4 p.m. and Islip visits Lindenhurst at 4:30 p.m.

In interesting scrimmages, Smithtown West hosts Shoreham-Wading River at 3:30 p.m. and defending CHSAA Division AA champ Iona Prep plays at Manhasset at 4:30 p.m.

Nice showing today Iona vs. Manhasset. 10-9 Gaels win!

  2. LI Guy says:

    Both final scores…

    Lindenhurst 14, Islip 13

    Mineola 12, Glen Cove 7

  3. Justlaxin says:

Can we please not put scrimmage, repeat, scrimmage scores out. Describe the game if you like but it seems petty for Iona to do that. Win in the regular season when it counts. Scrimmages are when coaches mess around with plays, lines, etc.
