The number of athletes who find the combination of football and lacrosse to be a perfect fit continues to grow.

Jesse Schulze epitomizes the trend.

The senior was one of the leading players for Croton-Harmon High School’s football team the last two years, helping the Tigers advance to the 2011 New York Class C championship game at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse.

But lacrosse is not only Schulze’s college future (he will be playing at Eastern Connecticut State University), but his focus right now as the Tigers prepare to start official practices on Monday, March 11.

The athletic midfielder is known for his faceoff abilities and knack for coming away with groundballs.

Now, here are Jesse’s perspectives on the upcoming season.11-300x150

What have you been doing to get ready for the season?
Our team has been practicing outside as much as possible, we’ve been in the weight room, and we’ve been playing once a week in the Brewster league.

I’ve been working out, studying our playbook, working my offhand, and working on my reaction time for faceoffs.

How does your schedule look?  What games are you looking forward to most?  Who are some of you scrimmages against?
Our schedule is a little more challenging this year with Pelham and Tappan Zee in the mix.  I’m especially looking forward to playing Hen Hud at West Point.  We scrimmage against Harrison and Stepinac.

What players on your team do you think will surprise some people?
I think our goalie, Ben Gelfand, will surprise some people.

What do you think the strength of your team will be this year?
We have a strong, shifty offense, smart players and an experienced defense.  Plus a lot of us have been playing together for many years.  Good chemistry.

How do you view the race in your league and who do you think some of the contending teams will be?
The teams might get better every year, but I think it will be Croton-Harmon, Ossining, and Keio might surprise some people.
