The first national high school rankings of the 2013 season have been released and Chaminade is flying high.

The Flyers drew the No. 2 ranking, behind No. 1 Boys Latin (Md.), in the Under Armour/Inside Lacrosse High School Power Rankings.

We continue our preseason coverage of the Flyers by hearing from JJ McDaid.

The senior who will play his college lacrosse at the newly launched program at Furman University, is an athletic midfielder with good speed, stick skills and size. He was a defensive back on Chaminade’s CHSAA championship football team this past fall.

Now, here are JJ’s perspectives on the season.

What have you been doing to get ready for the season?
I’ve been lifting, running and playing in an indoor league with my school team. Lifting, speed and agility is hosted by our football coach, Steve Boyd. He gives us a different workout each day.

How does your schedule look, what games are you looking forward to most, and who are some of your scrimmages against?
This year’s schedule is looking very strong filled with many challenging teams. St Anthony’s, West Islip, Fairfield Prep, Massapequa, Yorktown, Manhasset, and our first time playing St. Ignatius Prep. Each team is very competitive.

Our first game is against Massapequa (on March 21) and that is the one I am looking forward to the most. After that it’s the next one on the schedule that is most important.

What player or players on your team do you think will surprise some people this season?
This year, our surprises are our juniors. Our seniors are all working hard pushing each other.

Timmy Muller is incredible. He will show a whole new level of strength and speed out on the field this season.

Ryan Lukacovic has been the hardest working player in the weight room.

The whole team is working hard and everyone is looking forward to the start of the season

What do you think the strength of your team will be this year?
I believe the strength of our team will come from the transition game. Our team speed will create the transition from goalie to attack and our moving offense will create points.

How do you view the race in your league and who do you think some of the contending teams will be?
In our league, the race has always been against St. Anthony’s, I believe this year there is no exception.

We have a very difficult out-of-league schedule which will keep us focused and primed for the league championship.

    Yeh JJ.

  2. Islandia says:

Kind of surprised Chaminade is dominating in the poll over St A’s as much as they are. I guess we’ll see.

  3. Minny-O-La says:

I really think Nade can sweep St. As this year. They’re that good.

I am a big high school LAX fan. I attend 30 to 40 games a year and watch many schools play. Here is my two cents. St. Anthony was the LAX Champions the last two years and congratulations to them. But Chaminade was the better team the last two years beating them four out of six games. Kind of like the NY Giants in the last two Super bowls. The Giants were certainly not the best team in the NFL but timing is everything. Again, congratulations to the St. A’s, they did not give up, played hard and deserve what they got. Chaminade had a better team just didn’t get it done. That’s just sport’s. Good luck to both St. A’s and Chaminade this year and let the battle begin.
