The Empire State Games’ planned 2013 return will not be happening.
The return of the Summer Games was set for Rochester in July, but a lack of funding has resulted in the postponement of the return of the Games till 2014, the ESG Foundation said.
Here is the official announcement posted on the Empire State Games’ website.
For more on the news, check out this story by James Johnson in the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle.
During much of its 33-year history, the Empire State Games was the premier recruiting showcase for college lacrosse coaches.
Since the Games were suspended the last two years because of budget cuts, those coaches have gone elsewhere to find future players.

From a lacrosse perspective, it will never ever be what it was from a recruiting spotlight standopoint even if it does come back next year or whenever. Sad.
Great point. This used to be the premier event for New York kids but the club/travel schedules has surpassed that by a large margin.
Not exactly holding my breath they will be back next year… or ever.
