The NCAA Board of Directors has moved to simplify rules, many of which involve recruiting, for Division I teams. The board approved the changes to 25 rules on Saturday on the final day of its convention in Grapevine, Texas.

The changes, aimed at simplifying the often maligned NCAA rules manual, include no longer limiting the number of contacts and types of contact by coaches (including social media direct messages and text messages) during the periods during the calendar year in which contact is allowed.

In addition, student-athletes may now receive up to $300 per year to attend selected events and colleges can now provide normal expenses for athletes representing colleges at selected events, including media appearances.

The changes will go into effect Aug. 1.

Here’s a complete overview of the rules changes from the NCAA.

When will they do something about sophomores and some freshmen (albeit just Philly area kids right now) verballing?

Nice positive move by the NCAA. Kind of surprising they did something that makes sense!
