Here come the Green Wave juniors.

New Jersey powerhouse Delbarton School has 11 seniors who have committed to play at the collegiate level.

The number of 11th-graders, meanwhile, continues to grow.

The most recent junior commit comes from Matt Marone.

Marone has verbally committed to the University of Delware, where his father, Mike, a 1982 UD grad, is the school’s 12th all-time leading scorer.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound dodging attackman is a righty with a strong outside shot.

Now, here are Matt’s thoughts on his commitment.recruiting_update

What were the main factors in your decision?
A couple of the main factors in my decision were definitely proximity to home and a great coaching staff.

I also wanted a school with a strong balance between academics and athletics.

When I visited the Delaware campus my sophomore year, all the coaches made me feel very comfortable and right at home.  I knew soon after this, I would most likely end up there.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
The other two schools I was considering was Providence and Holy Cross.  I went on visits to both schools, but felt, in the end, Delaware was the best fit for me.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
Some of my strengths as a player are my outside shooting and my dodging abilities.  I like to dodge from behind and also like to get in place for a time-and-room shot.  Those are my two strong suits.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
My father introduced the game to me at a very young age.  I’d say by the time I was 6 years old, I had a stick in my hands.

Who have been some of the biggest influences on you during your development as a player?
My father, again, has definitely been the biggest influence on my development as a lacrosse player.  He also played for (Delaware Head) Coach (Bob) Shillinglaw at Delaware from ’78-’82.  He’s been supportive of me throughout my entire life and especially during my recruiting process.

What travel team did you play on and what were some of the big showcase events you participated in last summer?
This past summer, I played for Patriot Elite.  Unfortunately, I suffered a broken fibula early on in June and  missed all my tournaments and camps last summer.

Luckily, I was able to make it up with fall tournaments.  I was invited to Philly Showcase where I was chosen to be a Fab 40 all-star.
