Harrison hopes to take the next step in 2013.

The Huskies broke through by winning a playoff game in New York’s Section 1 last season, winning at Ossining 10-6.

And Harrison has much of its team returning intact.

Leading the returnees is junior Jake Marino, who verbally committed in July to UMass.

Marino, who is also a football standout for the Huskies, is an athletic and aggressive two-way midfielder.

Now, here are Jake’s perspectives on the upcoming season.11-300x150

What have you been doing to get ready for the season?
I’ve been working on getting myself back into lacrosse shape. I’ve been doing workouts that include strength and conditioning, as well as speed and agility.

I also have been working on the field with my stick several times a week. Our winter lax league began in January and we started running as a team.

How does your schedule look: what games are you looking forward to the most, and who are some of your scrimmages against?
Our schedule is going to be tough again this year. We are going to be competing against some of the top teams in Section 1 and coach Jay (Harrison head coach Jay Rabinowitz), has added some games which include Arlinton and White Plains who are also the top teams in the area.

I look forward to every game with the competition as well as challenging myself against all our opponents.  The teams I’m looking forward to playing most would have to be Rye and Arlington.

As far as scrimmages go, we also have some tough teams to face to get us prepared for the season such as Nyack and Mahopac. We will also be playing teams from other areas during our Spring Break trip at the end of March.

What player or players on your team do you think will surprise some people this year?
We have a young, talented team this year, and I feel that many players are going to rise above and contribute, including returning players, such as Charlie VanTongeren, Jake Kirshner, Kyle Davidoff, and our goalie, Steven Forest.

Robert Waldman, Robert McKenzie and I will have to take on the role as leaders and perform to the best of our ability for each game. Kevin Nathanson is a transfer, and, with his athletic ability, he will bring our offenze to another level.

With the passion and heart of the players and coaches on this team, I am hoping we all can come together and act, play, and support one another like a family.

What do you think the strength of your team will be this year?
Although I feel that with hard work and time we will be balanced on both sides of the field, right now I would have to say the strength is on the offense.

How do you view the race in your league and who do you think some of the contending teams will be?
The league we are in isn’t going to be easy. Teams such as Horace Greeley, Fox Lane, Rye,and Byram Hills are our top competitors.

If we come together has a team, we will be able to compete and work hard to push each of those teams for the league title
