Zach Reilly’s junior season was cut short when the goaltender suffered a broken collarbone injury in Yorktown’s sixth game of the 2012 campaign, a  loss at Smithtown West in a battle of New York state powers.

But Reilly managed to return to action late in the season and now is back at full force for 2013.

And beyond.

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound Reilly verbally committed to Division III power SUNY Oneonta, becoming Yorktown’s sixth senior college commit. You can check out the complete list in LaxLessons.com’s “Updated tristate recruiting commitment rundown for the classes of 2013, ’14 and ’15.”

Reilly, who is a righty with strong communication skills and a high lacrosse IQ, has been playing the game since third grade.

Now, here’s a Q&A with Zach on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
I loved the campus and felt at home with the coaches and my future teammates.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I visited and was considering Mount St. Mary, Stony Brook, Salisbury and Oswego.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?recruiting_update
I would consider my best strengths to be my communications with my defense and my knowledge of the game.

What areas of your game have you been working to improve on?
I’ve been working to improve my speed and my release off a save.

Who have been some of the biggest influences on you during your development as a player?
Some of the biggest influences in my life would my dad, mom, (Yorktown head coach) Dave Marr, (Yorktown assistant coach) Sean Carney, Adam Lodewick, Vin D’Andraia, and my goalie coach, Dennis Butler.

What travel team did you play on and what were some of the big showcase events you participated in last summer?
In the summer, I played for the Yorktown Ballers at the Yale, Long Island and Syracuse tournaments.

In the fall, I played at the UMass, Rutgers and Shoreham-Wading River tournaments.

Sounds like a good fit for him. Congrats.

  5. Laxtime says:

Yorktown goalie competition will be interesting this year. Does either Zach or Austin Graham have a leg up at this point?

  6. WestLax says:

Great spot for Pre Pre Pre Season lower West poll
    1. Yorktown (could be top 10 in country when all said and done) tough tests with Jay, St. Anthony’s and Class B tourney GC watch out.
    2. John Jay class program GREAT coach it is a shame they have to go through Yorktown.
    3. Bronxville – 3 huge hype players they must live up to it!
    4. Iona Prep. – should handle all section 1 teams like Rye 1st game
    5. Somers – lost some key seniors let’s see how they come together down stretch.
    6. Lakeland/Panas – won’t be easy with upcoming teams Clarkstown South, Arlington and always Mahopac Oh yeah MAMO
    7. Mamaroneck – Connley one man wrecking ball.
    8. Mahopac – not as deep as past teams.
    9. Fordham Prep. – I know in Bronx but most kids from Westchester.
    10. Clarstown South – secret weapon returns from injury, sleeper.

  7. slacrosse says:

This will prob change as I re-familiarize with returning players but for now just in Section 1:

    1) Town–Bringing back a balanced high quality team
2/3) Tie: JAY–Lambert can’t do it all (wait–can he go both ways??). Not sure of remaining depth around field AND BRONXVILLE–3 offensive studs-good goalie if returning. Not sure of remaining depth around field.
    4) Mamo–Conley, Greenberg, and Brill at goal–stood on his head vs Pac in A final
Group 1 (no order) Somers, Pac, LP, Arlington, Rye, Suffern, Brewster
Group 2 (no order) Greeley, Byram Hills, Put Valley, Hen Hud, Fox Lane
Group 3 (no order) WP, Pelham, Scarsdale, Pleasantville, Harrison

Can’t cover all-Sorry for the deletions.

You said it slacrosse! class A in boys is sure to be a toss up in my opinion. You have about 4 or 5 teams with legitimate chances of grabbing the title. Class B should be a typical town/jay match up but it is way too early to tell. Class C will be interesting but bronxville certainly has the paper advantage right now.

any news on section 9 teams? I know warwick was coming on strong the last couple of years. what about minisink?

  8. Baller says:
