If you were with us earlier this month during our coverage of National Letter of Intent Fall Signing Week, you know the recently launched Boston University program made its marks in the nation’s No. 1 hotbed for lacrosse, the New York/New Jersey/Connecticut tristate region.

In fact, 12 tristate seniors are bound for BU.

Among the dozen is a player from New York state power Jamesville-Dewitt – offensive-minded standout Justin Diamond.

The 5-foot-10, 165-pound attackman is a lefty with quick feet and good vision who can both feed and finish effectively. He performed well for Team United this past summer at both the Syracuse Shootout and MVP tournaments.

Now, here’s a Q&A with Justin on his decision.

What were the main factors in your decision?
I chose BU for several reasons. I really wanted to go to a great school educationally, BU fits that bill. I really liked (Head) Coach (Ryan) Polley and (Assistant) Coach (Drew) Kelleher, they made me feel comfortable, which is also important to me. Boston is a great city and a great place to go to school.

What other schools were you considering and which ones did you visit?
I was considering Sacred Heart, Penn, Dartmouth and Le Moyne. I visited Sacred Heart, Wagner and Penn

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I’ve been described as quick, and as a player who can catch and shoot in traffic, work hard off ball and with good vision who can finish.

I’m definitely a team player. I believe in unselfish play. I look to assist and set picks, but I’m not afraid to shoot. I love fast transitions.

What areas of your game have you been working to improve on?
I continue to work on D. I’m so offensive minded, I have to concentrate on D

Who have been some of the biggest influences on you during your development as a player?
I think some of my early influence came from my youth coaches. Coach John Goss, who recently passed away, was a great person, as well as Coach Tim Wilcox. They both volunteered so much time and planted the lacrosse seed.

As far as recent influences, Coach Ric Beardsley and Steve Carcaterra really know how to extract every bit of lacrosse out of you. They are highly motivational and knowledgeable .

What travel team did you play on and what were some of the big showcase events you participated in last summer?
For the last two summers and falls, I played for Team United. United is relatively new in CNY. Coach (Ric) Beardsley is quickly growing his club team and has had great success  sending kids to the next level.

Last summer, I played in two tournament with United: SU Shootout and MVP. I loaded up on clinics and camps, attending the LT-300 at Brown, making the all-star team , the ECLC at Dartmouth, also making the all-star team, and two Penn clinics.
