Monmouth’s newly launched Division I program has not yet played a game, but it has already staked out its recruiting territory.
As you will be seeing later this week, when we release our college-by-college breakdown of senior commitments as National Fall Signing Week gets under way Nov. 14, the Hawks have been a big hit among seniors in the Garden State.
The latest New Jersey standout to commit to Monmouth is left-handed attackman Tim Kemner.
The 5-foot-10, 160-pound Kemner is a senior at Kingsway Regional High School, located 25 miles southwest of Philadelphia.
Kemner is a versatile offensive player with good field vision and playmaking abilities.
Now, here’s a Q&A with Tim on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
One of the biggest factors of choosing Monmouth was the location. It is only an hour and a half away from home and a mile away from the beach. The school is beautiful and offers a lot academically. Both (Head) Coach (Brian) Fisher and (Assistant) Coach (Andrew) Geison made me feel very comfortable. I can’t wait to be up there next fall.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I visited Robert Morris and Post University. I was considering both of them as well as Navy and Limestone.
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I believe I have good vision and can see the field well. I like to create plays and work for the best opportunity to score.
What areas of your game have you been working to improve on?
I have been working on my strength so I can power through the defender. I have also been putting in a lot of work on my opposite hand and my footwork.
Who have been some of the biggest influences on you during your development as a player?
Coach Steve Wilkinson has definitely been one of the biggest influences in my lacrosse career. I started playing when I was in third grade and he coached me all of youth.
Both Coach (Harry) Sankey from Rebel Elite and Coach(Bill) Keane from the South Jersey Shamrocks have been extremely helpful as well.
What travel team did you play on and what were some of the big showcase events you participated in last summer?
Rebel Elite and South Jersey Shamrocks.
