One of the biggest breakout seasons for a Long Island player happened last season at Bay Shore where Jake Sheets emerged as an impact player.

Sheets, an attackman, continued his strong play during the summer, quickly solidifying his status as a major Division I recruit.

Sheets has made his college choice while immersed in football season as Bay Shore’s quarterback.

He has decided on Stony Brook University.

A natural athlete, Sheets is equally effective as a feeder and finisher, dodges well and has good field vision.

Now, here’s a Q&A with Jake on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
Stony Brook is local to home, has a good education, good athletic teams and I have friends playing there.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
Rutgers, Hofstra, Salisbury and Hartford.  I visited Rutgers, Hofstra and Salisbury.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
Good vision and good dodges to the cage.  My style of play has changed the past year or so. I used to get a lot more assists than goals, but lately it has been the other way around.

What areas of your game do you think you need to work on?
Getting stronger and getting better with my left hand.

Who have been some of the biggest influences on you during your development as a player?
My dad, who coached me all my life, and (Bay Shore Head) Coach (Tim) Cox who has also coached me for the past four years.

What travel team did you play on and what were some of the big showcase events you participated in this past summer?
I played for Bay Shore’s travel team and played in the Rising Junior game at the Long Island Showcase at Adelphi University.
