As reported here this past week, the Bernards (N.J.) High School varsity team has a pair of Division I-bound midfielders.

We heard from Griffin Connor, who is headed to Marquette University.

Now, it’s University of Vermont commit Jon Diamond’s turn.

The 5-foot-9, 180-pound righty is an aggressive and physical player who excels in the faceoff X, as evidenced by his highlight film.

A three-sport standout who also wrestles and plays football, Diamond did not start playing lacrosse until his freshman year in high school.

Now, here’s a Q&A with Jon on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
Definitely the (coaching) staff and team. Everyone was extremely friendly and made me feel real welcomed and treated me like I was already a part of the team. But the deciding factor for me was when I went on my visit to Burlington. From the start, I loved it there. Burlington was beautiful and everyone there was extremely warm and friendly.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I was also considering St. Joe’s, Rutgers, Franklin & Marshall, Muhlenberg and a couple of other schools. I had visited Rutgers, Franklin & Marshall and St. Joe’s on junior days, but UVM was my first overnight visit.recruiting_update

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
Definitely in facing off, and I would describe my style of play as physical and aggressive.

Who have been some of the biggest influences on you during your development as a player?
My biggest influence has definitely been (Bernards Head) Coach (Dave) Brothers. Freshman year, he convinced me to play, and got me into facing off. He was the man who started me out and taught me everything I know.

Other influences in my development are my past and present teammates. When I was a freshman and sophomore, I practiced all the time with players after practice such as Kyle Coons, Andrew Staller, Griffin Connor, Jonathan Robinson, Matt Locker and some of my other teammates.

What travel team did you play on this past summer and what were some of the showcase events you competed in?
I played on our high school team for the summer. and I went to the Philly Showcase where I was seen by Vermont, a showcase at F&M, and Peak 200.
