Dominic Padula’s talents as a lacrosse player are hard to overlook.

The attackman/midfielder from Rumson Fair Haven (N.J.) is an adept shooter with strong stick skills – talents on display on his highlight reel.

So it should come as no surprise that the standout for the Team United travel team garnered recruiting interest from a variety of Division I programs.

But when assessing them, the 6-foot, 165-pound right-hander looked beyond more than lacrosse.

“I feel that you really have to look at whether you would still like the school if you weren’t going there for a sport and just for academics,” Padula, a junior, said.

After weighing is options, Padula has decided that Hobart is where he will be headed.

Now, here’s a Q&A with Dominic on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
I feel that you really have to look at whether you would still like the school if you weren’t going there for a sport and just for academics. I felt that way about Hobart from the moment I stepped on campus. Along with really liking the school I thought the coaching staff was a great group of guys and the team was everything I am looking for.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I visited Colgate, Sacred Heart, St. Joseph’s and Boston University.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I feel that no matter what I won’t give up and I tend to favor my shooting rather than my dodging.

Who have been some of the biggest influences on you during your development as a player?
Big influences would definitely be my family along with my middle school coach Dale Oehler, my high school coach Reid Jackson, and my club coaches Ric Beardsley and Steve Carcaterra.

What travel team did you play on this past summer and what were some of the showcase events you competed in?
This summer I played for Team United and participated in the 2012 Maverik Showtime Recruiting Spotlight.
