Hendrick Hudson (N.Y.) coach Craig Solomon doesn’t have to think for long when asked what Brett Dalton’s greatest attribute is.

“Brett is one of the most athletic kids I have ever coached,” Solomon said. “He has great speed and excels from box to box.  His ability to get groundballs and turn that into transition opportunities for our team was one of our strengths last season.”

Following this past varsity season, Dalton, who helped the Sailors advance to the Section 1 Class C final, worked hard to improve his skills.

“Over the summer, Brett focused on lax and really improved his overall game.” Solomon said. “He is a highly motivated player who will continue to work and improve.”

The results have become apparent.

The 5-foot-9, 155-pound right-handed senior midfielder has committed to play his college lacrosse at Division III power Cortland State, which coincidentally happens to be Solomon’s alma mater.

In addition to his athleticism, Dalton has tremendous acceleration and footspeed, attributes on display in his highlight film.

Now, here’s a Q&A with Brett on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
There were many factors in my decision, whether it was the school itself, the size, the quality, the look, etc. Or even the team. In my opinion, Cortland is a great fit for me.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I was considering Nazareth College in Rochester and a few others in the Northeast.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
Cortland’s style of play is at a very fast pace and that’s something that i think suits me as a player. I’m very strong in the clear game and I believe I’m a very aggressive type of player.

What areas of your game have you been working to improve on?
I’ve been working on my shooting and passing much more with both my weak hand and my dominant hand. There’s always room for improvement.

Who have been some of the biggest influences on you during your development as a player?
Throughout my years playing competitive sports, my dad has been a huge influence, always pushing me to be my very best and give 100 percent, whether it’s a game or practice.

My high school varsity lacrosse coach, Mr. Solomon, really brings the best out in you by pushing you to be better than everyone else on the field with you.
