Playing alongside Division I caliber talent is something John Reed has gotten to experience long before he will begin his collegiate career.
You see, Reed is a junior attackman at defending Class M Connecticut state champion Darien.
“Just this past year, I had the opportunity to play with and learn from amazing players such as Henry West, Tony Britton, Case Matheis, and many others,” Reed said.
West and Britton are freshmen at Cornell and Matheis is a first-year member of the squad at Duke.
Soon, Reed will be joining them at the D-I level. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound righty has verbally committed to Bucknell.
Reed becomes Darien’s second junior college commit, joining Yale-bound goaltender Phil Huffard.
A strong dodger, Reed is equally effective as a feeder and finisher.
Now, here’s a Q&A with John on his commitment.
What were the main factors in your decision?
The main two factors in my decision came down to academics and the level of lacrosse.
I felt that Bucknell was a perfect mix between great academics and great lacrosse. Bucknell is a great school that has been playing really good lacrosse, and I believe that will continue to occur well through my years as a player. I also really liked the coaching staff of (Bucknell Head) Coach (Frank) Fedorajaka, (Assistant) Coach (Joe) Conner and (Assistant) Coach (Nick) Marks.
What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I strongly considered and visited Fairfield, Loyola, Michigan and Quinnipiac.
What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My ability to control a game with the ball in my stick. I can dodge from anywhere on the field and score and feed off of my dodges.
Who have been some of the biggest influences on you during your development as a player?
Some of the biggest influences on me during my development as a player were other lacrosse players from Darien. Just this past year, I had the opportunity to play with and learn from amazing players such as Henry West, Tony Britton, Case Matheis, and many others.
What travel team did you play on this past summer and what were some of the showcase events you competed in?
I play for the Connecticut Chargers in the summer. This past summer, I competed in Maverik Showtime, Loyola Rising Junior Shootout, National Invite 175, and various tournaments with the Chargers.
